mention data engineering and people kinda zone out.
watched like 100 postgrad students pick tracks last month. AI was packed. data was... yeah, not packed.
keeps happening the same way.
we're attracted to what sounds powerful.
we don't really think about what makes it powerful in the first place.
one student nailed it:
"AI is the expression of power. data is the power itself."
heard that and it just stuck with me.
AI gets all the attention. data is just... doing the actual work.
honestly, the people who'll matter most in this space aren't the ones crafting the best prompts.
they're gonna be the ones who actually built the datasets, cleaned the messy stuff, and understood what the data was actually saying.
boring work. real advantage.
