I found it interesting what Vitalik Buterin recently shared on the Green Pill podcast. The founder of Ethereum discusses something he calls the "ultimate double-edged sword" — and honestly, it's a good way to describe the contradictory nature of cryptocurrencies.
What struck me is how Buterin structures his thinking around three pillars. First, censorship resistance — that's the core, right? Providing an escape hatch for those excluded from traditional financial systems. But then there's this phenomenon of the "growing number," and here Vitalik becomes more cautious. He acknowledges that it can indeed fund innovations, but he warns: it can also erode the fundamental values of the movement.
The third point touches on institutional design. The idea is to ensure that these new systems remain truly distinct, that they don't end up reproducing the same structures they were trying to bypass.
This is the kind of perspective that only someone like Vitalik Buterin can offer — no dogmatism, but a clear-eyed analysis of the internal tensions within crypto. It’s worth taking a moment to consider.
