Just read that the Russian crypto exchange Grinex was hacked. The damage is significant – about 1 billion rubles, which is roughly 10 million euros. The exchange immediately halted trading and claims that foreign intelligence agencies might be behind it. Sounds pretty wild as an explanation.
What I find most interesting is that the attackers were quick: around 15 million USDT were moved from the platform and directly converted into ETH or TRX. That’s classic mixing to obscure the trail. The on-chain data clearly shows this.
Also strange: Grinex was previously connected to Guarantex – and Guarantex was famously seized by U.S. authorities. Now there’s also a massive attack on Grinex. I wonder if there’s a pattern behind this or if it’s just coincidence. In any case, the matter has landed with law enforcement agencies. It will be interesting to see how it develops.
