ME News Report, April 22 (UTC+8), Iran recently announced a Bitcoin toll fee of $1 per barrel for oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Scammers then impersonated Iranian government officials to send false information to shipowners. On April 18, at least one oil tanker that had paid Bitcoin fees to scammers was intercepted by Iranian vessels and forced to turn back while attempting to pass through the strait. Greek maritime risk management company MARISKS warned that malicious actors are demanding shipowners pay fees in Bitcoin or Tether and instructing them to submit documents for evaluation by so-called Iranian security agencies. MARISKS confirmed that these requests are all scam messages, and it is currently unclear which companies are affected. (Source: ODAILY)
