Arbitrum officially announced the urgent freeze of the 30,766 ETH held by the KelpDAO hacker, and the comment section was full of insults. The Arbitrum Security Council stepped in directly, forcibly transferring the 30,766 ETH from the hacker’s address to a frozen wallet, temporarily removing it from the hacker’s control. As soon as this move was made, the community instantly erupted; many voices accused it of blatant centralization, severely violating the principle of blockchain decentralization, turning “immutability” into a joke.
In fact, whether they freeze it or not, it’s impossible to make everyone happy:
Not freezing = taking no action, letting the hacker run wild;
Freezing = using privileges, breaking the bottom line of decentralization.
Those who just watch will never understand the pain of the victim. Only the victims know that kind of despair when funds suddenly drop to zero. This question never had a perfect answer$ETH
