When the network is congested, clicking "Confirm" actually just queues the transaction into the mempool, like delivery riders stacking orders at the door. Miners/validators look at: how much tip you give, whether the transaction will fail, and if they can conveniently include some other profitable transactions along the way. So your transaction might stay pending for a long time, or get overridden by higher-paying ones, and it's not surprising if it times out or drops out. During airdrop season, it's even more obvious—everyone completes tasks like clocking in at work, and the task platforms even fight against fake accounts. A bunch of people rush in at the same time, causing the mempool to hit peak hours... Now, when I see a pending transaction for a long time, I first take a screenshot and save it as a meme, so I won't doubt myself later if I think I clicked wrong. Anyway, don't rush to increase the fee and chase transactions blindly; first check if the transaction will revert (failures still cost gas), then decide whether to cancel and resend.
