Just realized how much easier buying crypto with PayPal has gotten. Like, I remember when this wasn't even a thing, but now you can literally do it right from the app most people already have. Thought I'd walk through what that actually looks like since a few people asked me about it.

So buying crypto with PayPal is pretty straightforward now. You go to the Crypto section (on desktop it's under Accounts, on mobile just hit the menu), click Buy, pick what you want, and that's basically it. The cool part is you don't need to buy a whole Bitcoin anymore. BTC is sitting around $74.67K right now, which is wild, so fractional shares are actually clutch. You can start with literally $1 if you want and build from there.

Payment-wise, you can fund it from your PayPal balance, a linked bank account, or debit card. Credit cards are a no-go though, which honestly probably saves people from themselves. They also have PayPal USD if you want something more stable.

One thing though - buying crypto with PayPal is convenient but it's a custodial wallet, meaning PayPal holds your keys. That's fine for small amounts, but if you're getting serious about it, people usually move their crypto to an external wallet for more control. The transfer process is simple enough, just need a wallet address.

Ethereum is around $2.29K right now and Litecoin is at $54.51, so there are options beyond just Bitcoin if you want to diversify. PayPal does charge transaction fees on trades though, except for their own stablecoin. That's worth knowing if you're planning to trade actively.

For beginners just getting into this, buying crypto with PayPal is honestly one of the easiest entry points. The interface is familiar, it integrates with what you already use, and you're not dealing with complicated exchanges. Not perfect, but definitely accessible.
