Just been researching which SUVs are most expensive to maintain and honestly, it's wild how much some models will drain your wallet over time. Like, if you're thinking about getting a Jeep Grand Cherokee, you're looking at around $10,872 just for maintenance and repairs over the first decade. That's like $2,600 more than what you'd normally spend on an average SUV. And there's a real chance—about 31%—that you'll need some major work done on it too.

The Jeep Wrangler isn't much better either. It runs you roughly $10,662 in upkeep costs, which is almost as bad as the Grand Cherokee. People love them, but one mechanic I read about mentioned water pump replacements alone can hit $700, and oil leaks? Those can cost up to a grand depending on where the problem is. Apparently leaks are pretty common on these.

If you're eyeing a Ford Escape, watch out for engine issues—those repairs get expensive fast. We're talking $9,100 average over ten years, and when the engine goes bad, you could be looking at $3,000 or more just for that fix. The infotainment system is another headache, ranging from $300 to $1,000 to repair.

Then there's the Ford Bronco Sport. The suspension system seems to be a weak point and fixing that will cost around $3,000. Infotainment glitches might run you $500. Over five years, you're budgeting somewhere between $3,800 and $4,000 for maintenance.

Basically, if you want to avoid the most expensive SUVs to maintain, these four are probably worth skipping. Consumer Reports suggests budgeting about $900 a year for routine maintenance on average, but these models will definitely push that number higher. Just something to think about before you commit to one.
