ME News update: On April 4 (UTC+8), former Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tehran should take advantage of its “upper hand” in the war to push for a “comprehensive peace agreement, ending 47 years of hostility with Washington.” In an opinion piece, he wrote: “Tehran should use its advantage—rather than continuing to fight—declare victory, and reach an agreement that both ends the current conflict and prevents future conflicts.” He said that the peace agreement should include limits on Iran’s nuclear capabilities, as well as reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifting all economic sanctions against Iran. Zarif said this is an “agreement Washington would not have accepted earlier, but might accept now.” Zarif served as Iran’s foreign minister from 2013 to 2021. (Source: PANews)
