ME News message, April 3 (UTC+8). Ambassador Fu Cong, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said at a UN Security Council public meeting on cooperation between the UN and the Gulf Cooperation Council that the origin of the fighting in the Middle East lies in the U.S. and Israel launching armed attacks on Iran, and that the fundamental way to prevent the situation from deteriorating is for the U.S. and Israel to stop military operations. China does not agree with Iran’s attacks on GCC member states, condemns all acts of indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians and non-military targets, and believes that the security of sea lanes should not be disrupted. Ambassador Fu Cong emphasized that the Security Council should take an objective, impartial, and fair position. In the current situation, authorizing member states to use force is no different from legitimizing illegal abuse of force, which will inevitably lead to further escalation and serious consequences. The Security Council must act cautiously and play a positive role in helping cool down the situation and restore dialogue and negotiations. (Source: ODAILY)
