World, a company owned by Sam Altman, has introduced a technical update to World Chain that enables developers to convert existing web applications into mini-apps with just two lines of code. The update, known as Minikit 2.0, standardizes development within the ecosystem by aligning with the EIP-1193 Ethereum standard, ensuring a "build once, deploy everywhere" workflow. The update comes amid a sharp increase in consumer interest in World: mini-apps have been opened more than 12.1 million times in just one week, with total opens exceeding 2.2 billion. According to the press release, Minikit 2.0 introduces several key infrastructure improvements aimed at removing barriers for both developers and end-users.
First, thanks to Flashblocks integration, transaction confirmation times have been reduced from 2 seconds to just 200 milliseconds — a critical change for gaming and high-frequency trading. Second, through partnerships with Privy and Zerodev, World now offers gas sponsorship. Developers can cover transaction fees for their users, eliminating the need for newcomers to transfer assets or maintain wallet balances. The update also expands support for a wide range of local stablecoins, positioning World Chain as a major hub for regional finance.
Along with a new set of tools, World announced the launch of applications for World Build 3, its developer program. This initiative has become a significant force in the industry; previous participants have raised over $15 million from venture capital firms to develop the World "proof of human" infrastructure. The third group of participants is organized to accelerate project growth through a strict global schedule, starting with a four-day hackathon with a $20,000 prize pool. This is followed by an intensive in-person sprint in Seoul, a three-month incubation period for scaling applications, and a final presentation to investors in San Francisco.
Meanwhile, the press release states that World will demonstrate the capabilities of Minikit 2.0 and the broader World Chain ecosystem at EthCC. With the launch of the update, the entry barrier to World App has effectively been removed, allowing teams to scale from standalone web versions to full-fledged World Chain applications without changing core logic.
