Wu said that Delphi Digital co-founder Tommy Shaughnessy issued a statement criticizing Circle for not freezing the related USDC funds during the Drift attack incident, stating that Circle knowingly has the centralized freezing capability for USDC but allowed the funds to flow freely, and that "we could have completely frozen the funds flowing to North Korea." Previously, on-chain investigator ZachXBT also stated that Circle responded slowly in this incident, with millions of USDC transferred from Solana to Ethereum via CCTP over several hours without being frozen, allowing the funds to be successfully transferred.
