ME News update: On March 31 (UTC+8), Google recently published a post stating that it will complete the post-quantum cryptography (PQC) migration by 2029 to address threats posed by future quantum computers to existing encryption standards. Google said that quantum computers will pose a major threat to current encryption standards, especially encryption and digital signatures. The threat to encryption has already begun to show itself—for example, “store now, decrypt later” attacks; while digital signatures are a future threat that require transitioning to PQC before deployment to the related quantum computers for cryptography (CRQC). Therefore, Google adjusted its threat model, prioritizing the PQC migration of identity authentication services, and recommended that other engineering teams take similar measures.
