Tom Lee: Quantum risk may be reshaping the Bitcoin holding structure

Tom Lee, in his podcast, pointed out that Bitcoin has been operating for about 14 years. The earliest group of crypto natives—holders who were only in their twenties at the time—are now reaching maturity, with many having accumulated considerable wealth. This is driving a change in the structure of Bitcoin holders, with some early adopters beginning to sell their Bitcoin holdings.

At the same time, he also mentioned a more Bitcoin-specific potential risk—quantum computing. As quantum technology accelerates, about one-third of Bitcoin wallets are currently unable to be upgraded, which means they are vulnerable to quantum attacks.

In contrast, traditional financial systems can address similar risks by mandating users to upgrade passwords and security standards. However, in the Bitcoin network, some long-unupgraded wallets (such as those related to Satoshi Nakamoto) pose structural challenges. To truly resolve this issue, it may ultimately require a Bitcoin fork.
