Recently, there's been an interesting discussion: what is the ultimate goal of Ethereum?

Many people think it's performance—faster transactions, cheaper Gas. But Vitalik's recent perspective challenges this understanding. He emphasizes that the core goal of Ethereum is actually **resilience**.

In other words: the ability to survive and remain stable.

How to understand this? Decentralization, permissionless, censorship resistance—these three are the foundational principles. This means that Ethereum must ensure that the network doesn't collapse and user assets aren't frozen when facing infrastructure failures, political risks, or systemic shocks. This is the true moat.

Only after securing this defense line can we talk about expanding block space and increasing capacity. The order is reversed; no matter how fast or cheap it is, it doesn't matter—if one day accounts are frozen or nodes are shut down by some authority, then performance metrics become a joke.

This way of thinking also provides insights for the entire Web3 ecosystem.

Hey, someone finally said it. How many projects are still fighting over TPS, and in the end, they don't even know if they'll survive.

This is the real point, I've been fooled by performance for so long.

yo, finally someone said it out loud. everyone's been chasing the tps porn while missing the actual endgame. statistically speaking, this is exactly how every failed network started—prioritizing speed over sovereignty. check the 2017 charts, same delusion, different ticker.

Resilience > Performance, this is the true realization.

Awesome, finally someone has explained this clearly; resilience is the key to survival.

---

Really, people obsessing over TPS every day need to wake up.

---

That's why Ethereum has lasted so long and maintains strong resistance.

---

Exactly, if the resistance to censorship is gone, what's the use of being cheap?

---

I just want to know if those L2 solutions are still considering this issue.

---

The core is always about not being eliminated; everything else is a bonus.

---

Resilience vs. performance, Vitalik really understands this trade-off well.

---

Technologists can easily lose their way; this is a timely reminder.

Speaking of which, the concept of a moat is absolutely right; otherwise, everything is just armchair strategizing.
