Solana changes its name to "Solara": A cultural stance in the encryption circle.
How important can a public chain's Chinese name be?
On October 20, the official Solana X account confirmed its Chinese name - 索拉拉. At first glance, it looks like a typical brand localization move, but given the current timing, it means something entirely different.
Where did this name come from?
The event originated from a naming campaign initiated by Mable, the founder of Trends.fun. The winner was user @muper (@easytopredict), who proposed the name “Solara.”
His explanation is quite interesting: this name represents those creators who are continuously building on this chain, full of energy. The transliteration is apt, and the reduplicated structure adds a sense of liveliness – it sounds very much like Solana, fast, vigorous, and without any drag.
But why did the official confirmation of the Chinese name come at this particular time? There is actually a bigger story behind it.
Global Degens are crazy about learning Chinese
You may have noticed that a rather magical phenomenon has emerged in the crypto space recently: a bunch of foreigners have started to tackle Chinese.
In the past few years, the voice of the cryptocurrency market has been largely monopolized by the English community. But the tide has changed. Meme coins represented by Pepe and WIF, with the support of the Chinese community, have created legends time and again, showcasing a cohesion and capital mobilization capability that has stunned global players.
The result is—if you don't understand Chinese, you might really miss the next hundredfold coin.
This led to a scene where foreign Degen was using translation software to study what “City不City” meant, pondering the meaning of “She young young,” and learning about “Binance life.”
