#PI The Pi Network Venture Capital Company made its first investment in OpenMind, a company that develops operating systems and Open Source protocols for Bots, allowing them to think, learn, and work together, just like the Android for robots.
The investment in OpenMind aligns with the main objectives of Pi Network and Pi Network Ventures. Pi Network is committed to leveraging blockchain and the resources behind it to solve real-world problems. Pi Network Ventures is dedicated to capturing more products from around the world onto Pi and enhancing the utility of Pi.
Pi Network Ventures OpenMind
The technology of openmind has created a shared intelligence layer that enables Bots to collaborate and collectively learn in a decentralized ecosystem. This complements Pi's vision for the future of blockchain and artificial intelligence, where decentralized infrastructure supports open innovation and fair participation.
In addition to this investment, Pi Network and OpenMind have also collaborated on a proof of concept project, where volunteer Pi node operators ran image recognition AI models for OpenMind, demonstrating that Pi node operators can run computations for third-party organizations. OpenMind's AI model ran in early experiments on the Pi node infrastructure, exploring the capabilities of Pi's global node network to support decentralized artificial intelligence training and computation tasks - another utility of Pi nodes aside from securing the Pi ledger. This is also a platform-level utility that relies on the collective resources of the network, namely the computing power of its over 350,000 active nodes.
By converting unused computing power into productive work, this effort #PI 1#PI enables AI products to obtain and meet their computing needs from Pi nodes by paying Pi to node runners, and also (2) allows Pi node runners to choose to participate in gaining Pi from other node utilities aside from node mining rewards. This Pi node utility can help further integrate Pi into the AI economy by contributing to these computations and AI model training on the AI infrastructure layer.
The strategic alignment of openmind and the investment goals of the Pi Network.
openmind is developing infrastructure that enables Bots and intelligent systems to interact safely with their environment and with each other, without relying on a single vendor ecosystem. openmind's OM1 operating system is hardware-agnostic and supports the integration of intelligent machines into real-world environments. The newly introduced FABRIC protocol allows machines to verify identities, share context, and coordinate across physical and digital environments. You can learn more about OpenMind here.
The investment in OpenMind provides a potential opportunity for the broader vision of Pi Network in a blockchain-driven world powered by artificial intelligence.
Pi Network Ventures participated in the funding round of OpenMind, reflecting its commitment to supporting strong startups and businesses in the blockchain and cross-technology sectors that align with the direction of Pi Network. This complements its three core investment objectives:
Increase the utility of Pi,
to enable more production on the Pi Network worldwide, and
Bringing Pi into real use cases.
Regarding blockchain in an AI-driven world, Pi Network recognizes that technological productivity—especially that derived from AI—raises questions about distribution, production, and the roles of human labor and intelligence. In a future where productivity and transactions are increasingly executed by AI agents representing humans, the integration and accessibility of payment methods for these agents is an important feature.
The infrastructure that enables these agents to operate autonomously and coordinate effectively in real-world environments will be essential.
openmind seeks to build a shared intelligent layer that supports inter-departmental machine collaboration - from autonomous logistics to industrial automation - and promotes the development of an interoperable AI application layer. This layer sits between high-performance artificial intelligence infrastructure and real-world production, and in Pi's view, empowering this layer is crucial to ensuring that the benefits of artificial intelligence are equitably enjoyed by human participants.
The architecture being developed by OpenMind represents a pathway for developing the coordinated infrastructure necessary for scaling intelligent systems in an open and adaptable manner. In turn, such systems may create opportunities for blockchain-supported identity, access, authentication, payment, or incentive mechanisms, among others—areas where Pi has existing infrastructure and ecosystem activities.
Against this background, Pi Network Ventures' investment in OpenMind supports a broader goal of preparing a technology and ecological environment integrated with real-world Pi applications in an increasingly AI-dominated world.
Proof of Concept: Building for Decentralized Computing Utilities
The initiative allowing Pi node operators to run computations for OpenMind represents an early stage in exploring decentralized computing for AI training, leveraging the distributed capabilities of Pi's global node network.
The consensus algorithm of Pi is designed to be energy-efficient, which means that only protecting the ledger does not require the full computational power of the entire network of over 350,000 nodes ( although it benefits from the decentralization of these nodes ). Therefore, Pi nodes retain a large amount of unused computational capacity. Capacity is a valuable resource that can enable new utilities on the node layer ( such as decentralized cloud computing ).
With the increasing demand for computational resources from artificial intelligence, utilizing this backup capacity from the global Web3 network can help meet these demands while providing practical applications for Pi. By enabling nodes to perform AI-related computations, Pi opens up possibilities for new vertical utilities and economic activities within its ecosystem. Those who require computational power for AI model training can pay Node operators with Pi for additional capacity, creating a decentralized cloud computing market that is more accessible and cost-effective than traditional centralized platforms.
This vision can be achieved by combining Pi's decentralized labor network with its computational layer, allowing AI model developers to access human feedback and computational power within the same ecosystem. Pi aims to create a self-sustaining environment where people contribute labor, provide computation, and earn Pi in return—fueling the next wave of artificial intelligence development through decentralized participation.
