The Elon Musk Crypto Scam That's Fooling Everyone
Another day, another crypto scam using Elon’s face. I’m getting sick of these.
A ridiculous scam is currently making rounds on social media, claiming that Elon Musk is handing out thousands of Bitcoin and Ethereum. Yeah, right.
These fraudsters are posting fake events supposedly backed by Tesla and X, directing unsuspecting victims to websites disguised as Medium articles “written by Musk.” The posts claim nonsense like “Great times have come! Elon Musk initiated 5,000 BTC and 100,000 ETH GiveAway!”
Let’s Get Real Here
Come on, people. When has Elon Musk EVER given away $600,000+ in crypto without a reason? The man’s a businessman, not Santa Claus. And X is bleeding money right now - why would they suddenly decide to shower random people with crypto?
These scammers aren’t even trying hard. Their websites (like event-promotion.info and event-finance.net) were registered just last month! Classic move from people who don’t want to be found.
The scam follows the oldest trick in the crypto book - the “send me money and I’ll double it” con. You send them 0.05-2 BTC, and they promise to send back twice as much. They even throw in fake “bonuses” - 40% extra if you send 1+ ETH, 200% if you send 40+ ETH. It’s laughable how transparent this is.
But here’s the kicker - people are falling for it! Every single coin sent to these addresses is gone forever. No returns, no bonuses, just emptier wallets and richer scammers.
Protecting Yourself
I can’t believe I still have to say this in 2024, but NO legitimate crypto project will ever ask you to send them coins with a promise of returning more. It’s literally the definition of a scam.
If Elon Musk was actually giving away crypto (he’s not), he’d announce it through official channels, not through some random account called “@tonystarki” on social media.
These scams aren’t just financially devastating - they can compromise your data too. So before jumping at the next “too good to be true” crypto deal, maybe spend 30 seconds googling it first?
The crypto space is amazing, but it’s still the Wild West. Keep your guard up, folks.
