Do you remember the feeling of being scared away by a gas fee of dozens of dollars when you first entered the circle? I still remember the first time I played an on-chain project, my hands were shaking when confirming the transaction. That experience of "the cost of the road is more expensive than the goods I brought" was really discouraging.
Later, various L2s emerged, and the situation improved a bit, but it still felt like something was missing. Until recently, I saw the announcement for Gate Layer, and after reading it carefully, it seemed like that old question in my mind had a new answer.
It doesn't pile on complex terminology, but straightforwardly tells you: a million transactions, it costs 30 dollars here, while other chains might cost hundreds or even thousands. This comparison immediately reminded me of the painful feeling back then. If there had been such an option at that time, perhaps I would have explored the DeFi world earlier and with more peace of mind.
What I find even more clever is that Gate has turned its platform token $GT into the only "fuel" for this new highway. This means that every story that happens on it, whether it's a transaction, issuing tokens, or buying an NFT, is contributing to the value of $GT. Coupled with their ongoing destruction mechanism, it's like carefully tending to a garden rather than blindly expanding.
Of course, how far a new chain can go ultimately depends on what can grow on it. Gate has directly brought practical tools like decentralized contracts and no-code token issuance, clearly hoping that developers and users like me can come over to "settle in" without burden. It is not like building an unreachable universe, but rather like paving a smooth and easy path right at the doorstep, inviting you to come and take a stroll anytime.
The technology is hardcore, but the vision is very down-to-earth: to lower the cost of participating in Web3, bit by bit. For someone like me who has experienced the era of "sky-high Gas fees," this alone is enough to make me pay more attention to and have higher expectations for the future of Gate Layer.
