Pi Coin News Today: Pi Network activates Testnet 25, mainnet upgrade voting countdown, open network process acceleration
Pi Network officially activates Testnet 25 upgrade today, with plans to fully launch at 21:00 UTC. This testnet update is regarded as a critical step in the evolution of the Pi Network mainnet, aiming to lay the foundation for upcoming mainnet technical changes and community governance votes. As the upgrade is implemented, attention continues to rise around Pi Network mainnet upgrades, open network processes, and ecosystem expansion.
According to community announcements, Testnet 25 builds upon previous upgrades such as Protocol 23, focusing on system-level optimizations. These improvements are believed to provide underlying capabilities for future smart contract support, security tools, and more on-chain applications. The developer community generally considers this version an important infrastructure upgrade for the Pi ecosystem to move towards more complex application forms.
Meanwhile, Pi Network has clarified the next key milestone: the mainnet upgrade vote will be held at 17:00 UTC on January 22. At that time, Pi members will vote on whether to implement the relevant changes on the mainnet. This mechanism is seen as an important part of Pi Network’s decentralized governance and is also interpreted by the market as a signal of further openness of the mainnet.
For ordinary Pi members, the significance of Testnet 25 lies in “testing first, landing later.” Currently, the Pi mainnet remains partially closed, with features such as external wallet transfers and full node openness not yet fully enabled, and most network activities still conducted internally. The team emphasizes that the current core goal is to improve network stability, security, and real-world application scenarios, rather than speed.
It is worth noting that Pi Network has recently launched an official in-app news push feature to display reports from authoritative third-party media. This move is seen by the community as helping to reduce information noise, curb rumors, and give users a clearer understanding of Pi Network’s long-term development plans.
On the security and data front, the Pi core team reiterated that its official X account is the only verified external information channel and guided users to prevent scams through the Pi Security Center. Latest community data shows that approximately 15.8 million users have migrated to the mainnet, about 17.5 million users have completed KYC verification, and over 215 applications have been launched within the ecosystem. Meanwhile, about 134 million Pi Coins are expected to be unlocked in January.
Overall, with Testnet 25 officially launching and the mainnet vote approaching, Pi Network is entering a critical preparation phase. The current development pace indicates a preference for steady progress, security-first approach, and gradual openness rather than aggressive expansion. This strategy will continue to influence the Pi Network mainnet upgrade process and the long-term narrative of Pi Coin.
