Shaw Walters announced on Aug. 4 that the ELIZAOS token is dead and the foundation is winding down, according to his X post. The announcement comes after a federal class-action lawsuit filed by Burwick Law forced the foundation to surrender its remaining treasury in settlement rather than continue an expensive legal fight, leaving no funds for token buybacks, supply reductions, or replacement tokens.
Walters said there will be no foundation support going forward and urged remaining token holders to "either sell or get a cabal to crime it up." However, the underlying ElizaOS open-source AI framework will continue development independently. Walters stated the team intends to keep building local, private, crypto-enabled AI agents, saying, "We're still building Eliza and the underlying OS, faster and better than ever."
