Jin10 Data, October 24 - The Canadian Statistics Agency announced that the release of international merchandise trade data will be delayed due to the U.S. government shutdown. The agency stated on Friday that the trade data for September, originally scheduled for release on November 4, cannot be published on time and a new joint release date will need to be negotiated once the U.S. Census Bureau resumes operations. The statement noted: “The shutdown of the U.S. government directly affects our agency's ability to compile and release Canadian international merchandise trade data, and during this period we will be unable to obtain statistical data on Canadian exports to the U.S.” It also warned that the shutdown will impact the third quarter expenditure-based GDP and the balance of payments, as both of these data points rely on trade statistics. Relevant reports will be published as originally planned, but special estimates relying on model data may face extraordinary revisions once the actual data is in place.
