Jin10 Data, October 2nd - On October 1st local time, a spokesperson for New York Governor Kathy Hochul's office stated that New York State will not bear the operating costs for the Statue of Liberty like it did during the previous government shutdown. The governor mentioned that this time the Statue of Liberty's torch could "completely go out." Hochul noted that over 100,000 federal workers in New York State have been forced to take leave or face the risk of being furloughed, including dozens of staff working at the Statue of Liberty. It is currently unclear whether the Statue of Liberty will close and when it will close.
