HYPE at $54—are you brave enough to catch a falling knife?
First, look at the surface: bearish pressure is smashing in, with bloodshed everywhere.
HYPE has been dumped all the way from its 76.8 ATH to $54, with a cumulative drawdown of nearly 30%. In the past 24 hours alone, it once fell by more than 10%, and its market cap evaporated to $13.8 billion. Down more than 8% on the weekly chart—it's the hardest hit among the top 10 by market cap. The daily RSI has already dropped to 29.42, extremely oversold. Either $54 holds for a reversal, or it cascades down to $50.
First: the $600 million unlock just got done—yet you’re getting scared again.
On July 29, 9.92 million HYPE tokens were unlocked, worth $600 million, accounting for about 4% of circulating supply. Multicoin Capital applied to remove collateral for 1.96 million HYPE (worth $120 million), and Selini Capital also removed collateral for 504k. Bitwise transferred about 160k tokens to Coinbase.
Sounds scary? But the market already dropped 28% in advance to digest this bearish news.
Besides—that’s not even how it’s framed. Multicoin’s managing partner publicly stated that the extraction of these 1.96 million tokens was not for selling, but rather routine institutional wallet rotation.
Second: the fundamentals are unbelievably strong, yet you’re being fooled by the price.
Even though the HYPE price is falling, Hyperliquid’s fundamentals have not collapsed at all:
Protocol revenue has surpassed $1 billion—not TVL, not FDV, but real revenue
Open interest is $11.45 billion, at the highest level in 2026
24-hour perpetual contract trading volume exceeds $9.29 billion
Daily generates about $2.20 million in fees and $1.51 million in protocol revenue
RWA open interest hit a record high at $3.6 billion
A total of 47.30 million HYPE have been burned, accounting for 4.73% of total supply
97-99% of protocol fees are automatically used to buy back HYPE
Third: whales are adding positions against the trend—you didn’t notice.
Right as Multicoin applied to remove collateral—
A suspected a16z address staked 9.92M HYPE across 20 wallets, worth about $164 million.
Another whale-linked wallet staked 2.93 million HYPE in the past 24 hours; its average holding cost is only $44, with an unrealized gain of about $44.5 million.
Fourth: four bearish catalysts hit at the same time, crushing sentiment to the extreme.
These past two days, HYPE’s breakdown has four drivers:
First, the market worries Hyperliquid will start forced KYC. But in reality, this feature only applies to that one specific deployed market; the native market and other HIP-3 markets remain permissionless.
Second, SK Hynix perpetual contracts flashed and crashed by about 18% due to an oracle anomaly, triggering over $57 million in liquidations.
Third, the Iran-U.S. situation suppresses risk appetite.
Fourth, the technical picture shows a double top—HYPE was knocked down around $76 in two consecutive attempts.
With four bearish catalysts hitting at the same time, the price wouldn’t fall unless it was trying not to. But the real question is: are the bad news catalysts already fully out?
Bull vs bear—you decide
Bull logic:
RSI 29.42 is extremely oversold; historically, there’s a 90% probability of a rebound
Protocol daily revenue of $1.51 million—the buyback is still running
Open interest of $11.45 billion, setting a new annual high
Whales add 2.93 million HYPE in a countertrend stake; a16z is suspected of adding as well
Grayscale valuation model shows HYPE is undervalued
RWA weekly trading volume is $25.1 billion, accounting for over 50% of the platform’s trades
Bear logic:
The $600 million unlock just happened—there is a real supply shock
Multicoin and Selini Capital transferred $130 million to exchanges
In the next 7 days, another 6.93 million tokens will have collateral unlock/removal
ETFs have had net outflows for three straight weeks; cumulative July outflows exceed $13 million
Overall crypto risk appetite is low; BTC is ranging around the $64k area
Key levels
Resistance overhead: 57-58 → 60-63 → 67-68 → 76.8 (ATH)
Support below: 54-55 → 52-53 → 50 (200-day EMA + psychological level)
For short-term traders:
Wait for the 54-55 support zone to stabilize, then go long with small size and cut loss if it falls below 50; target 57-60. If it breaks below 52 on high volume and confirms, the bears follow through shorting all the way to 50.
For swing traders:
Wait for a reclaim of 57-58 and daily-chart confirmation, then add on the right side; target 67-70+. If it breaks below 52, exit and observe.
For long-term believers:
DCA in batches at 52-58. DeFi’s flagship with annualized nearly $800 million in revenue, but the market cap is only $13.8 billion. The 2027 target looks like 100-150+—betting on RWA + an explosion in full-asset trading. But remember—only keep investing idle money; if it goes to zero, don’t cry.
A project with annualized nearly $800 million in revenue and a market cap of $13.8 billion—worth only $54?
From 76 down to 54, it’s not the project that died—it’s that traders keep cutting losses at the lowest points.
In 2020, UNI went from $8 to $3, down 62%; later it rose to $45.
In 2021, SOL went from $1.5 to $0.5, down 67%; later it hit $200.
$54 HYPE—will it be the next 100x start, or just another stop on the road to zero?
The answer isn’t on the candlestick chart—it’s in the protocol’s daily $2.2 million in fees.
What’s your HYPE cost basis?
At this $54 level—do you dare to bottom-fish?
