when gpt-oss-120b launched, one host scored 93.3% on a math benchmark. another scored 80%.
same weights. same test. 13 points lost somewhere on a server you can't see.
moonshot saw the same thing with kimi k2 and had to build a tool just to check whether hosts were serving it correctly.
the weights are open. what happens on the server isn't. the host picks the version, the settings and the price, and you just get an answer.
that's why open models are only half open when one company runs the servers.
