India plans to issue its first tokenised corporate bonds in September, according to Reuters.
The pilot will be led by REC, the state-owned power financier, with bonds worth less than ₹500 crore (~$57 million).
But what makes this different?
The bonds will be recorded on a blockchain / distributed ledger, while investors will use India's CBDC (digital rupee) to make the payment.
