#Breaking US July jobs report just dropped. Soft across the board.
- Nonfarm Payrolls: -23K (expected +85K)
- Private Nonfarm Payrolls: +30K (expected +78K)
- Average Hourly Earnings: +0.1% (expected +0.3%)
- Unemployment Rate: 4.1% (expected 4.2%)
The headline number turned negative. Wage growth cooled sharply. Private hiring stayed weak.
Labor market is clearly slowing. This is the kind of data that strengthens the case for the Fed to stay on hold or eventually cut rather than hike.
