Liquidity matters more than the headline.
When BTC moves, I ask one question before anything else: is real money coming in, or is leverage doing the work?
My quick check:
Spot volume vs futures volume
Open interest direction
Funding rate, to see how crowded the trade is
If open interest jumps while spot stays flat, the move can be fragile. If spot and open interest rise together, the case gets stronger.
One caution: a single day of data proves little. I compare the same time window across all three.
What do you check first when a headline says “BTC breaks out”?
