How can out-of-sample testing help avoid mistaking chance patterns in historical market data for a stable edge?
A trading strategy performing well in historical backtests does not mean it can adapt to future markets. To reduce the risk of overfitting, out-of-sample testing is a crucial step in validating a strategy.
First, what is out-of-sample testing?
Simply put, it means dividing historical data into different periods: one portion is used to develop the strategy and adjust its parameters, while another is excluded from optimization and reserved specifically to test how the strategy performs

100 coins were ordered, 30 filled—where did the remaining 70 go?
This is called a partial fill. Suppose you place a limit sell order for 100 coins and only 30 have been matched so far. The remaining 70 may still be waiting, or they may have been canceled due to settings such as the order’s time in force.
A successfully placed order only means it was accepted; it does not mean it has been fully completed. Check the filled quantity, remaining quantity, and order status.
The execution may also be split across multiple records.

My long-term view on Amazon remains cautiously bullish. AWS, advertising, retail logistics and AI infrastructure give the company multiple growth engines. Short-term, however, I will not chase AMZN into the print. The market wants proof that heavy AI spending can convert into durable profits and stronger free cash flow, not just higher expenses. My approach is straightforward: wait for the numbers, evaluate management’s guidance, then demand clear price confirmation before taking any directional risk.
