BREAKING: July PPI Inflation cools sharply to 4.7%, below expectations of 4.9%, and down hard from June's 5.5%.
Core PPI Inflation came in at 4.2%, also cooling from 4.7% previous.
Monthly numbers missed too. Headline PPI flat at 0.0% against 0.2% expected. Core PPI up just 0.2%, below the 0.3% forecast.
This is a genuine cooling across every measure, not just one. PPI feeds directly into the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, and this print lands right after yesterday's soft CPI and last week's weak jobs report.
Odds of a rate pause continue to build heading into September.
