Founder and CEO

Dr. Han, Ph.D. in Optics, is the founder and CEO of Gate and an early advocate of Bitcoin and blockchain technology. With years of experience in technology and product development, Dr. Han founded Gate in 2013. After unremitting efforts, he developed it into an international platform focusing on safe, fast, and reliable cryptocurrency trading services for global users. Dr. Han emphasizes platform and product innovation and hopes to build a secure, transparent, fair, and efficient crypto trading ecosystem through Gate to promote the innovation and widespread adoption of blockchain technology.

Kyle Chiu

Chief Marketing Officer

Kyle is a seasoned marketing executive with over a decade of experience in Web3, fintech, and global finance. As Chief Marketing Officer at Gate, he leads global brand and marketing strategy, overseeing international campaigns, partnerships, and growth initiatives that strengthen Gate's market presence worldwide. Prior to Gate, Kyle was Head of Marketing at Animoca Brands, where he led flagship project launches including Moca Network across TGEs, go-to-market strategy, and chain launch. Before crypto, he led APAC digital marketing at Deutsche Bank Asset Management and worked at advertising agencies and brand consultancies on global campaigns.

Edwin Cheung

Executive Director

Edwin Cheung leads Gate's global fiat strategy, building the institutional partnerships, payment infrastructure, and regulatory relationships that underpin the exchange's growth. Under his leadership, Gate's fiat infrastructure has expanded across emerging and established markets, anchored by deep relationships with institutional counterparties and a disciplined focus on compliance and trust. With a decade at HSBC and Standard Chartered, he leads Gate's institutional strategy from the inside out, kowing exactly what it takes to earn the trust of banks, regulators, and partners. He holds an MBA in Fintech from HKUST and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne.

Jason Fung

Head of Global Partnerships

Jason Fung leads Gate’s global partnerships strategy, building relationships with leading projects, L1/L2 ecosystems, TradFi, Web3 product partners, and other strategic partners to support Gate’s growth across global markets. In this role, he works across listing, product, ecosystem, and the leadership team to identify high-value opportunities and strengthen Gate’s position as a leading global exchange. Jason brings over 15 years of experience across Web3, fintech, consumer technology, and gaming. Prior to Gate, he held senior leadership roles at Sei, ABFinance, TikTok, and Alibaba, as well as founder roles across multiple Web2 and Web3 startups, with a focus on go-to-market strategy, ecosystem development, asset operations, strategic partnerships, and international business expansion. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Toronto.

Lucas Sum

Head of Market Development, Equities

Lucas Sum leads the market development of Gate’s global equities business, driving the platform’s expansion into traditional capital markets and strengthening its position as a leading multi-asset investment platform. Working closely with product, strategic partnerships, and marketing teams, he focuses on translating global market opportunities into scalable commercial growth, expanding Gate’s institutional ecosystem, and accelerating investor adoption across international markets. Lucas brings nearly a decade of experience across multi-asset brokerage, wealth management, payment fintech, and financial services. Prior to joining Gate, he held leadership and market development roles at Longbridge Securities and Futu Holdings, where he contributed to the launch and scaling of new markets, built commercial partnerships, and developed go-to-market strategies across multiple regions. His experience spans ecosystem development, cross-border expansion, and business growth at the intersection of traditional finance and digital assets.

Dr. Giovanni Cunti

CEO of Gate Europe

Dr. Cunti holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and an MBA from London Business School. Over nearly 30 years of professional experience, he has held leadership roles in leading global technology and financial services, focusing on fintech, blockchain, Web3, and AI-driven financial systems. Currently, Dr. Cunti serves as CEO of Gate Europe, leading strategic development across the European market, with a focus on institutional business expansion, ecosystem development, and digital payments infrastructure, further strengthening its regional competitiveness and long-term presence in Europe.

Jawad Almohtar

Chief Compliance Officer - MLRO

Jawad Almohtar is an experienced professional with an extensive Compliance, Control, and Operations background spanning around 12 years. Jawad has a track record of developing compliance knowledge and practical experience. He worked with multiple Virtual Asset Service Providers in the UAE including Matrix, Rain, and M2. Through his roles, he has gained relevant experience in developing and maintaining frameworks, policies, and procedures for financial crimes compliance and anti-money laundering reporting, specifically surrounding virtual asset and blockchain technology. He has advised in preventing any potential risks surrounding anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, sanctions/embargo, and suspicious activity generally; implemented regulatory compliance policies within the business to abide by the relevant regulations. Jawad also developed relevant experience with compliance and investigations units early in his career with BLOM Bank and HSBC UAE.

Chief Compliance Officer and Head of Australia

Kavin serves as the Chief Compliance Officer of Gate Australia and also chairs the company's Compliance Committee. He is responsible for building the company's AML/CTF framework, overseeing AUSTRAC regulatory obligations, and managing AFSL licensing matters, laying a solid foundation for Gate Australia's long-term growth in the local market. He graduated from Charles Sturt University with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance. With nearly 15 years of industry experience, Kavin has held management roles at several leading global financial services and digital asset institutions. He specializes in regulatory compliance, AML/CTF programs, and financial services licensing, with extensive experience across both traditional finance and the digital asset sector.

With over 10 years of experience across Web3, IT, and financial services, Nicolas has held key roles at globally leading crypto exchanges, working across marketing, business development, compliance coordination, and strategic partnerships. He also has experience in traditional finance, including at SBI, one of Japan’s leading financial groups. Nicolas holds an MBA from Hitotsubashi University. Combining global crypto industry experience, traditional financial expertise, and a deep understanding of Japan’s regulatory environment, he is focused on building Gate Japan into a trusted, compliant, and user-oriented crypto asset exchange that connects Gate’s global capabilities with the Japanese market.

Makoto Miyata

Representative Director

Mr. Miyata has worked for over 30 years in the former Ministry of Finance of Japan (now the Ministry of Finance), the Financial Services Agency, and government-affiliated banks, etc. During that time, he spent much of his time as a supervisor of Japanese banks and insurance companies, and was involved in the handling of Japan's banking bubble. He was also involved in the separation of the former Ministry of Finance into the current Ministry of Finance and the Financial Services Agency, and the recovery of public funds from major private equity funds.

Earlier in her career, Laura co-founded and scaled a technology company over more than a decade, securing strategic investment from a leading global enterprise IT infrastructure provider and driving innovations that resulted in patents filed across the United States and international markets. She is focused on translating technological innovation into compliant, scalable financial services.

James Daniels

Chief Compliance Officer and AMLCO, Gate US

James Daniels serves as Chief Compliance Officer and AMLCO of Gate US, overseeing the firm's regulatory, compliance, and governance functions. Prior to Gate US, he played a pivotal role in the Compliance department at a major US digital asset exchange, navigating the regulatory demands of one of the most scrutinized industries in financial services. At Gate US, James has played a defining role in the firm's compliance infrastructure — expanding the compliance organization, driving the licensing strategy across key jurisdictions, and establishing the governance frameworks that underpin the firm's regulatory standing and institutional credibility.

Brian Reisbeck is a compliance executive with over 20 years of experience leading financial crime prevention and regulatory strategy across global digital asset exchanges and traditional financial institutions. Prior to Gate Futures, he served as Chief Compliance Officer at a top-tier global digital asset exchange and as Anti-Money Laundering Compliance Officer at Robinhood, designing enterprise-grade compliance infrastructure spanning BSA/AML, FinCEN reporting, transaction monitoring, and enterprise risk management at scale. His career bridges traditional financial services and the digital asset sector in a way few practitioners can claim.

Steve Patterson

Head of Financial Crime Intelligence & Risk

Steve Patterson brings over 20 years of experience in financial crime compliance across traditional finance and digital assets. He leads Gate US's financial crimes operations, spanning transaction monitoring, intelligence analysis, and risk-based investigations — drawing on senior roles at Deutsche Bank Wealth Management, Raymond James, and TradeStation Securities. He holds leading industry certifications in AML, fraud examination, and blockchain analytics.

Eli Green

Head of Financial Crime Strategy & Controls Architecture

Eli Green has extensive experience in financial crime and fraud risk management, designing compliance strategies and implementing the controls behind them across both traditional finance and digital assets. His career spans institutions such as J.P. Morgan in traditional banking and prominent crypto platforms in the digital assets space, where he has navigated financial crime risk across both established and emerging markets. He holds the CAMS, CCAS, and CAFS certifications and focuses on building scalable, AI-driven compliance systems.
