What is maximum drawdown? Why can a long-term profitable trading strategy still experience an unbearable string of losses?

In cryptocurrency trading, some strategies may generate positive returns over the long term but suffer substantial losses along the way. If traders do not assess in advance how far their account could decline, they may be forced to exit before the strategy has a chance to recover. Maximum drawdown is an important metric for measuring this risk.

First, what is maximum drawdown?

Maximum drawdown (MDD) is the largest percentage decline in an account’s net value from a prev

Hunting for a Reversal in the SOXL Crash .
$SOXL ‌

The chart tells a dramatic story. SOXL, a 3x leveraged semiconductor ETF, has experienced a catastrophic drop, plummeting -38.19% to trade at $40.93. The price has sliced through the Bollinger Bands and moving averages like a hot knife through butter, driven by headline fears (as noted: "AI buildout fears hit chip stocks").

When an asset falls this violently, panic selling is common. However, for the technical trader, a massive sell-off often sets the stage for a sharp, equally violent bounce. The Gartley Patt

I used to constantly remind myself that if my forecast called for two V-reversals, I’d stop posting short-term analysis here and focus only on the long-term outlook.
But I was young and hotheaded, unable to let go of my conviction or swallow my pride. Once again, I’ve put myself in a position I didn’t want to be in.
If things here go the way I think they will, there’ll be three more V-reversals! That would make four V-reversals in total in the short term!!!!
But fuck it, this is my call. #btc

Just came across KOL “Jotham Mabi”’s new trade. As usual, sis is only the courier and makes no guarantees👇
Asset: $ETHFI Long entry: 0.6201 Target: 0.7992 Stop-loss: 0.5821 Time: not specified (the channel shows it was just posted)
Speaking of which, I reposted this person’s $BCH trade earlier today, and here they are again—really quick on the trigger😂
Whether to follow and how much to allocate is up to you. Sis is only here to relay it, not to carry the trade.

I'm watching a potential BIG LONG on $HYPE ‌
TP: $79.00 / $80.00 / $81.80

SL: $75.97

You know what caught my attention?

After a sharp decline from $84, HYPE found buyers around $76.50 and started stabilizing. Sellers pushed price lower, but the recent candles are showing signs of consolidation rather than uninterrupted selling $HYPE

The market may be building a short-term base. If buyers reclaim $78.50–$79.00, trapped short positions could provide additional fuel for a recovery toward $80 and $81.80.

The important level is $76.50.

If buyers defend this support, the next liquidity targe

Bitcoin and Ethereum plunge together! Is the crypto bull market running out of steam? This time, even dip buyers are starting to hesitate!

When U.S. stocks fall, crypto gets dragged down too! BTC and ETH have recently come under pressure alongside global risk assets, as risk aversion intensifies and investors begin to reassess the crypto assets they hold.
When prices were rising, everyone thought Bitcoin was digital gold; but when market winds shift, it often behaves more like a high-volatility tech stock. Its supposed safe-haven status still has to stand the test of the market when it matter

Anyone willing to buy gold in the 4063–4080 range is betting that the momentum from NFP night hasn’t faded yet. Gold has surged so hard that a pullback is an opportunity to get in. Set your stop at 4020; if it breaks, take the loss. As for sector rotation, safe-haven funds have indeed been shifting into precious metals lately. No need to rush to a conclusion—let’s see how things play out. If you’re watching, keep an eye on #Gold.

Honestly, I wasn't this pessimistic when ETH was at $1,500. Now total DeFi TVL has already halved from its 2025 peak of $160 billion to $80 billion. I can only draw one conclusion: altcoins are dead

Yesterday’s Bart pattern—everyone who followed along and traded must be thrilled, right? A rally with no reason is a bubble. This bear market will most likely bottom in November 2026. We’re currently at the end of the time window, not the beginning. More importantly, there’s the interest rate path: the market has never stopped betting on the Fed pivoting to rate cuts. Once dovish signals are confirmed, the historical pattern of liquidity flowing back into crypto assets still holds. In other words, the macro factors suppressing prices are precisely the fuel for a future rever

Those waiting for a breakout often have to take a sucker punch first. I’m also hoping gold makes a run for it, and I wouldn’t rule out a test of the previous high. But based on the price action, it’s more likely to flush lower first and shake out those chasing the breakout or waiting for confirmation. The reason is simple: large sell orders tend to pile up near previous highs. The order book may make it look like price is “just one push away,” but there could actually be dense selling pressure in the $2–$3 range above. A breakout can trigger a few sharp upward candles, drawing in retail trader
