Tonight isn’t really about whether the Fed can surprise the market with 25 bps. The bigger question is what comes after the hike.
The September FOMC decision is finally here, and the market is already heavily positioned for a 25 bp rate increase. Reuters reported today that markets were pricing roughly a 92.5% probability of a quarter-point hike, which would move the Fed’s target range to 3.75%–4.00% and mark the first rate increase since 2023.
So I’m not looking at tonight as a simple “hike or no hike” event.
The hike is already largely expected.

The House Ways and Means Committee has passed the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act with a 38–5 vote.
Key proposal:
💸 Crypto gas and transaction fees under $10 could receive tax-free de minimis treatment.

• Crypto transfers
• Wash-sale rules
• Broker reporting
• Certain stablecoin transactions
⚠️ Important: This is NOT law yet. The bill still needs to move through the full House and Senate before becoming law.

The Fed hike itself may not be the biggest market event tonight. What matters more is what comes after the 25 bps decision.
My current market view is that the Fed is more likely to raise rates by 25 basis points, taking the policy range from 3.50%–3.75% to 3.75%–4.00%. The reason I’m leaning this way is simple: markets are already pricing a very high probability of a hike, while oil prices have created another inflation risk that the Fed cannot completely ignore.
