“U.S. stocks no longer close”: Nasdaq approved for 23-hour trading—is crypto’s last moat collapsing?
In August 2026, a piece of news sent shockwaves through financial circles—the Nasdaq’s 23-hour trading system was approved by the SEC and will officially launch on December 6, 2026. At that point, U.S. stocks will trade five days a week, 23 hours a day, closing for just one hour from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time for system maintenance. Trading will begin at 9 p.m. on Sunday and continue until 8 p.m. on Friday.
