Ethereum has given itself a hard deadline of December 2029 to be fully quantum-resistant. Bitcoin has no deadline at all.
Coinbase just pointed straight at that gap.
On Oct 13 it told Bitcoin devs to start the quantum upgrade now, well before anyone builds a machine that can break it.
Why the urgency? Because Bitcoin upgrades move slowly, guys. SegWit took more than two years from proposal to activation, and that was a small change.
Meanwhile around 6.9M $BTC already sits in addresses with exposed public keys, per Project Eleven. Roughly a third of the supply. A lot of it is Satoshi-era coins
