We are so worried about making AI safe that we are completely blind to a much bigger threat: Winning the safety race but losing the capabilities race.
I am 100% in favor of investing heavily in AI alignment and safety protocols. We need it. But here is the brutal reality: If the "good players" slow down out of caution, the "sinister players" won’t pause to cheer for our ethics. They will simply overtake us.

It will run on energy density.
The places that still understand that will host the future. The rest will host the protests.

What’s one small thing you stopped doing this year that instantly made your life better?

AI is the biggest thing that happened right now on the planet. And the window of opportunity for Canada and Alberta to be part of the game is short. (Before AI moves to space), is about a decade.
If we don't need consultation to join the EU or start a trade war with Israel, then I see even less reason for endless debates on AI datacenters.
Regulations, yes.
Years long debate, no. We will miss the boat if we do.
