$NVDA ‌NVIDIA Earnings Reality Check: The AI Boom Is Still Accelerating But Margins Are Becoming the Next Test
NVIDIA has delivered another quarter that makes the scale of the AI infrastructure boom difficult to ignore. The latest fiscal Q2 results came in at $96.22 billion of revenue, up 106% year over year, while adjusted EPS reached $2.22 versus roughly $2.09 expected. Even more important for the AI investment thesis, Data Center revenue reached a record $89 billion, up 117% YoY and about 18% sequentially. Yet with NVDA currently around $219.48, the market is asking a different question after the earnings beat: not whether NVIDIA is growing, but whether future growth can remain strong enough to justify the expectations already embedded in the stock.
The first number that stands out is the $96.22 billion quarterly revenue. NVIDIA has moved from being an important semiconductor company to becoming one of the central suppliers of global AI infrastructure. Revenue more than doubled from approximately $46.7 billion a year earlier, while adjusted earnings more than doubled as well. This is why simply calling the report “another earnings beat” misses the bigger story. NVIDIA is now approaching the scale of a $100 billion-per-quarter company, and management is already guiding toward an even larger number for the next quarter.
That number is $108 billion.
NVIDIA's Q3 FY2027 revenue guidance of approximately $108 billion is above the market's expectations and represents another substantial sequential increase. Management is effectively telling investors that the AI infrastructure cycle has not peaked yet. The company also expects approximately 74% gross margin in Q3, compared with around 75% in the latest quarter. The combination is important: revenue growth remains extremely strong, but profitability is beginning to face more pressure as NVIDIA scales through a supply-constrained environment.
This creates the first major post-earnings debate.
Can NVIDIA grow faster than its costs?
Memory and component prices are becoming increasingly important. Management expects gross margins to move toward approximately 71–72% in Q4, meaning investors may have to accept some margin compression even while revenue continues expanding rapidly. That explains why the initial market reaction was mixed despite the earnings beat. NVIDIA can deliver extraordinary numbers, but when expectations are this high, investors immediately look beyond the current quarter toward margins, supply availability and forward growth.
The most bullish part of the report, in my view, is the demand-versus-supply equation. NVIDIA says demand remains substantially above available supply, suggesting the company is not currently struggling because customers have lost interest in AI infrastructure. Instead, the constraint is how quickly NVIDIA and its supply chain can deliver enough computing capacity. Management also indicated that fiscal 2028 revenue could grow around 70%, despite the business remaining supply constrained. That is a major statement because the market had been debating whether AI spending would slow sharply after the current infrastructure cycle.
Then there is Vera Rubin.
The next-generation platform has begun production shipments, giving NVIDIA another potential growth engine beyond the current Blackwell cycle. Management expects Rubin to ramp faster than previous platforms, while recent commentary indicates that Rubin could represent roughly 20% of Data Center revenue during the current quarter. If the rollout proceeds smoothly, the market could increasingly view NVIDIA's growth as a multi-platform cycle rather than a single-product boom.
The AWS development adds another important demand signal. Amazon Web Services plans to deploy approximately 2 million additional NVIDIA GPUs through FY2029, reinforcing the idea that hyperscalers continue committing enormous resources to AI infrastructure. NVIDIA's relationship with the largest cloud providers is therefore becoming a crucial part of the long-term thesis: the question is not simply how many chips NVIDIA can sell today, but how much computing capacity hyperscalers are planning to build over the next several years.
China remains the major uncertainty. NVIDIA's latest outlook does not include Data Center revenue from China, leaving potential upside if restrictions ease, but also creating a significant geopolitical risk if export rules remain restrictive. For now, investors should treat China as an optional upside factor rather than something that should be assumed in the base case.
Now comes the $219.48 NVDA chart.
After the earnings announcement, NVIDIA initially experienced hesitation despite the strong numbers, before sentiment improved during management's earnings call. That reaction itself is useful information: investors are no longer satisfied with headline earnings beats. They want confirmation that the next phase of AI growth can remain exceptional. Recent reporting showed the stock moving sharply in extended trading after the call, highlighting the volatility surrounding this earnings event.
At the current $219.48 area, I would treat $220 as the immediate psychological pivot. A clean breakout and sustained hold above $220–$223 would improve the short-term structure and could bring the previous $230–$236 region into focus. A move through that zone with strong volume would be a much stronger technical confirmation that investors are accepting the new earnings outlook.
On the downside, $215–$218 becomes the first area to monitor around the current price. If buyers fail to defend it, the next important zone would be approximately $210–$212, followed by the psychological $200 level. A sustained breakdown below $200 would indicate that the market is placing substantially more weight on valuation and margin pressure than on the company's extraordinary growth trajectory.
The technical picture therefore needs to be read together with the fundamentals. Above $220 with strong volume: momentum can strengthen. Between $210 and $220: consolidation and earnings digestion remain possible. Below $200: the market would be signaling a much deeper reassessment of the AI-growth premium.
My overall view is fundamentally bullish, technically cautious.
The earnings numbers are exceptionally strong: $96.22B revenue, +106% YoY; $89B Data Center revenue, +117%; $2.22 adjusted EPS; approximately $108B Q3 guidance; and around 70% FY2028 growth guidance. The biggest bullish signal is that demand remains above supply and Rubin is beginning its ramp. The biggest risk is that rising memory and component costs compress margins while NVIDIA's valuation leaves little room for disappointment.
This is the real post-earnings AI reality check.
The AI story has not broken. If anything, NVIDIA's latest numbers suggest that demand is still accelerating. But from this point forward, the market will increasingly focus on how efficiently NVIDIA converts that demand into revenue, margins and sustainable growth.
At $219.48, I would watch three things more closely than anything else: $220 price acceptance, 74% Q3 margin execution, and whether the Rubin/Blackwell supply ramp can keep pace with demand.
NVIDIA has already proved that AI demand is real.
Now it has to prove that extraordinary growth can remain extraordinary even as the numbers get bigger.
