Sometimes the loudest message from a central banker is the one he refuses to send. In Bangkok, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh sat down with IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva and gave traders no hint about the next rate move. The result was a relief bounce across dollars, stocks and crypto. Here is my read on the two questions everyone is asking.

Hawkish or dovish? Neither, and that is the story

Warsh stuck to price stability and refused to prejudge upcoming meetings. He also skipped forward guidance and pointed to central banks tightening in sync around the world, which tells us inflation is a global fight, not just an American one. He called the surge in investment the biggest upside force in the global economy. Sounds upbeat, but it also leaves the door open to keeping rates high if prices stay stubborn.

Why did silence feel like a gift? Look at what came before it. September CPI hit 3.7% against 3.6% expected. Producer prices jumped 1.3% on the month and 6.3% on the year, with energy up 10.8%, and core PPI rose 0.7% against a 0.3% forecast. With numbers that hot, one hawkish sentence could have shaken every market. It never came. Traders took the absence of a warning as relief, not as a dovish turn.

Is another October hike still on the table?

It is, but the market sees it as a long shot. The implied chance of a hike in two weeks dropped from around 27% to 15% after he spoke, and rate futures showed a similar move, from 28% to 14.9%. Still, do not write the hawks off. New York Fed President John Williams has said one more hike this year is appropriate. The next policy meeting is October 27-28, and between now and then, inflation prints, energy prices and any change in Fed language will decide the odds. One more hot reading could push them back up fast.

How the rest of the market answered

The reaction was a clean risk-on whisper:
- The dollar slid to a fresh 10-day low near 101.80, with the euro up and the Australian dollar near 0.6950.
- The 10-year Treasury yield held near 5.08%.
- S&P 500 futures traded near 7,800 and Nasdaq 100 futures near 30,150.
- Korea's KOSPI, which crashed 7.57% a day earlier, rose 2.05% to close at 5,668.05, its first higher close in eight sessions.
- Gold dipped toward $4,073 on hike bets, then recovered as the dollar and yields eased.

What it means for Bitcoin

BTC got a relief bounce, not a new trend. It jumped more than 2% in 24 hours to about $82,300 and sits near $81,650 now. The logic is simple: a softer dollar and calmer rate fears take pressure off risk assets.

The contrast with August is striking. When Warsh sounded clearly hawkish at Jackson Hole, Bitcoin slid below $77,000. This time the tone was neutral, and the market moved the other way. The message for traders is that Bitcoin reacts less to what the Fed does and more to what the Fed makes people fear.

There is a catch. One analysis rated the effect on BTC as mixed, because high rates could linger. And Bitcoin is still healing from this week's flush, when it dipped under $80,000 and liquidations approached $1 billion.

The levels I am watching

Support: the 50-day EMA at $80,443, then the 100-day EMA at $76,824 and the 200-day EMA at $75,751.
Resistance: a daily close above $82,538 would open the way toward $84,049 to $84,250.
Danger line: a close below $80,443 puts $80,206 and the recent low near $79,694 back in play.

Three paths into the Fed meeting

The rally path: inflation cools or hike odds drop further, and BTC pushes through $82,538 toward $84,250.
The range path: no catalyst, and BTC chops between $80,400 and $83,000.
The pullback path: hot data lifts hike odds above 30%, the dollar firms up and BTC retests $80,000.

My take

Warsh did not hand the market a script, so traders are writing their own, and expectations can flip quickly. I lean toward a modest relief move, with the Fed meeting and the next inflation reports as the real tests. I am keeping leverage low, treating $80,000 as the line in the sand and calling any rally conditional until the data agrees.

Now it is your turn, Gate Square. Are you seeing Warsh's silence as quietly hawkish or quietly dovish, and where do you think BTC goes before the October 27-28 meeting? Drop your call and your key level in the comments.

PAPER at $0.02743: a 129% jump from launch, and what every trader should understand before touching it

PAPER, the token of Papertrade, has been one of the loudest small-cap stories today. It briefly broke above $0.035 and was quoted at $0.02743 at 9:40 a.m. ET on Sunday. Here is a clear breakdown of the numbers and the mechanics behind them.

What happened today

The sequence is simple. HIP-3 market deployer Paragon paid 570.98 HYPE, about $45,000, to win the PAPER ticker, and then launched the PAPER perpetual contract on Hyperliquid's HIP-3 market with up to 3x leverage. It trades as a pre-launch perpetual contract, 24/7, and will later convert to a standard perpetual.

At the first snapshot, PAPER was at $0.012, with about $30,000 in open interest. That is a very thin start. A couple of hours later, the price had moved above $0.035.

The move in numbers

From $0.012 to the $0.035 spike is a gain of about 192%. At $0.02743, the token is up about 129% from the launch quote, and about 22% below the spike high. These are my calculations from the reported figures.

For a quick technical frame, the spike range is $0.012 to $0.035, or $0.023 wide. Today's pullback has retraced about a third of that run. The 38.2% retracement sits near $0.0262, the 50% near $0.0235 and the 61.8% near $0.0208. Those are reference levels for a thin market, not forecasts.

What PAPER actually is

This is where the basics matter. PaperTrade is an onchain perpetual futures exchange on HyperEVM that mints PAPER to traders who lose. Supply starts at zero, with no pre-mint, team allocation, VC allocation or airdrop, and traders receive 100 PAPER for every $1 lost while the pool is below $2 million, after which the rate decays. The token can also be staked to earn a portion of platform fee revenue.

My plain reading: PAPER supply grows when users lose money. That makes it a loss-rebate token, and it means supply is linked to platform activity, not a fixed schedule.

The platform's background

Papertrade launched on October 10. Its predeposit phase drew 11,465 addresses and $138 million. It offers up to 1,000x leverage on BTC and ETH with zero fees, zero funding and zero slippage. That is extremely aggressive, and the risk profile deserves respect.

The controversy matters

Do not skip this part. Papertrade faced allegations that a trader moved Ethereum quotes on Hyperliquid while holding larger positions on Papertrade, netting about $1.28 million. The wallet reportedly traded about $231 million of Ethereum on Hyperliquid and recorded $3.18 billion of volume on Papertrade. That wallet's losses resulted in about 17.6 million PAPER being issued, and Papertrade tightened exposure limits afterward. The allegations concern how Papertrade references external prices, and they do not demonstrate a breach of Hyperliquid's own system.

What the setup tells me

First, price discovery is early. Open interest of $30,000 at the start means a few trades can move price a lot, so a 129% jump says more about thin liquidity than about proven demand.

Second, the product launched fast and attracted attention fast. A new perp market, a loss-minted token and a high-leverage platform create a story that traders love, but also one with real structural risk.

Third, a perp listing gives more ways to trade a token, including shorting. That can add volatility in both directions.

Scenarios

Constructive: PAPER holds the $0.0235 to $0.0262 zone, open interest grows and the price retests $0.035.
Neutral: price ranges between $0.020 and $0.030 as the market discovers fair value.
Cautious: a break below $0.0208 would retrace most of the run and suggest the pop was driven by launch excitement.

How I would approach it

I would treat PAPER as a high-risk, short-term trade, not a long-term position. I would keep size very small, avoid leverage entirely, and set a hard exit before entering. Fresh listings can reverse faster than they rise.

I would also watch three things: whether open interest grows beyond the tiny starting level, whether Papertrade keeps its tighter limits intact, and whether the pre-launch contract converts to a standard perpetual without disruption.

A big percentage move on a tiny base is a headline, not a thesis. Read the mechanics before the chart, and decide what you can afford to lose before you click.

After CPI came in above expectations, market expectations for a Fed rate cut in October cooled sharply, with bets even beginning to shift toward a further delay in the timing of rate cuts. After a short-term pullback, the US Dollar Index and Treasury yields are likely to strengthen again next week, continuing to weigh on gold on a fundamental level.
On the 4-hour chart, the medium- to long-term bearish trend structure remains intact. The 150-period and 200-period moving averages continue to trend downward, firmly capping upside potential. The broader bearish-dominated trend remains unchanged.

Machi's $4.3M 25x ETH long: the math behind the headline

The news is dramatic, but the useful part is the numbers. Here is what is reported, what the position implies, and what it teaches about leverage.

The timeline

On October 15, Machi Big Brother's Hyperliquid account was fully liquidated, falling from a $12.25 million peak to $21,800 after heavy Ethereum longs. Four ETH liquidations hit within about three minutes, ranging from 380 ETH at $2,379 to 800 ETH at $2,331. Then about 25 minutes later he opened a new 25x ETH long of 290 ETH with a liquidation price of $2,324.

On October 18, the story repeated. Lookonchain reported a total liquidation, with the 250,000 USDC deposited two days earlier nearly wiped out, a $44.84 million profit from a year ago erased, and a reported additional loss of $36.85 million. Outlets frame the totals slightly differently, so treat the headline figure as the reported number, not an audited one. According to TradingBeats, he then deposited another $100,000 that evening and opened a $4.3 million ETH long at 25x, entering at $2,398 with $176,000 of total collateral.

The leverage math

The numbers hold together. $4.3 million of exposure on $176,000 of collateral is about 24.4x. At $2,398, that notional is roughly 1,790 ETH.

The more important number is the buffer. By my rough estimate, assuming a maintenance margin near 2% for a 25x position, the liquidation price sits around $2,350, about 2% below entry. Exact levels depend on the exchange's margin rules, so treat that as an approximation. The point is that a move of only a couple of percent against the position would end it.

How small is that move for ETH

Very small. ETH's 24-hour range recently ran from $2,392.90 to $2,488.84, about 4%, so an ordinary day can be twice the room this position has. ETH also tested $2,310 to $2,324 earlier this week, and the 100-day EMA near $2,356 and 200-day EMA near $2,309 sit right around that area. A routine retest of those levels would be enough to trigger liquidation.

What the pattern tells us

This is the third reported cycle in a single week. A large loss on October 15, a new 25x long within about 25 minutes, then another full liquidation on October 18, followed by a new 25x long. Older reports show the same behavior: he has repeatedly reopened 25x ETH longs after liquidations. One earlier analysis noted that all 2,000 of his trades on the platform were buy orders, which means a fully one-directional bias.

My takeaways

First, leverage changes the question. At 25x, you are no longer asking whether ETH will go up. You are asking whether it will go up before it dips about 4% against you, and daily volatility alone can answer that.

Second, whale activity is not a signal. A large position on a public dashboard shows what someone did, not whether it was a good idea. The same wallet has a long record of liquidations, so following it adds risk and no edge.

Third, position size matters more than conviction. A trader who risks a small fraction of an account can be wrong many times and survive. A trader who risks the entire margin each time can be right most of the time and still end at zero.

What I would watch on ETH

ETH is near $2,400 today, with support at $2,356, $2,324 and $2,309, and resistance at $2,493, $2,550 and $2,600. The Fed meeting on October 27-28 is the next macro catalyst. A liquidation cluster near $2,350 could add short-term volatility if price drops to that area, since forced selling feeds on itself.

How I would handle my own risk

I would use low leverage, size the position so a stop-loss costs only a small share of the account, and never add margin to a losing position. Adding collateral to avoid liquidation turns a small loss into a bigger one.

The headline is about one trader, but the lesson applies to everyone: the market can be right about the direction and still wipe you out on timing.

#ShareWeekly Producer Inflation Meets a $80K Bitcoin Test: Can the Fed Afford to Ease?
Bitcoin is entering September’s U.S. Producer Price Index release with a difficult macroeconomic backdrop. The key question is whether wholesale inflation confirms the price pressures already visible in consumer data or offers the Federal Reserve some room to reconsider its policy path.
Economists are forecasting a 0.6% monthly increase in headline PPI for September, compared with 0.4% in August. Core PPI, excluding food and energy, is expected to rise 0.3%, up from 0.2%. The annual headline rate is forecast at 5.5%, compared with 5.4% previously. These are expectations, not confirmed results; the actual figures must determine whether producer inflation has surprised markets.

The starting point is already uncomfortable for policymakers. September CPI rose 0.6% month-on-month and 3.7% year-on-year, while core CPI increased 0.3% monthly and 2.6% annually. Gasoline prices climbed 9.1% during the month, adding to headline inflation pressure. If producer prices also exceed expectations, markets may worry that higher business costs could feed into consumer prices and make a near-term shift toward easier monetary policy more difficult.

The composition of PPI will matter as much as the headline. A surge concentrated in energy or goods could signal a different inflation problem from persistent increases in services. Investors should watch final-demand goods and services, energy-related components, transportation and trade services, alongside any revisions to earlier readings. A softer headline accompanied by stubborn core services would not necessarily deliver a clean bullish signal.

Bitcoin’s sensitivity to interest-rate expectations is already visible in the current market backdrop. On October 15, Barron's reported BTC at $80,743, down 1.2%, after an overnight low of $80,247, as hotter consumer inflation strengthened rate-hike concerns. These are reported market levels, not a verified PPI-release reaction.

Three scenarios now matter. If headline and core PPI both come in below forecasts, Treasury yields and the dollar could face downward pressure, potentially improving conditions for BTC and other risk assets. If both exceed expectations, renewed rate-hike concerns could strengthen the dollar and weigh on crypto. A mixed report may leave markets focused on core services, revisions and whether the increase is broad-based.

The confirmation test is the cross-market response: BTC’s price and volume after publication, the U.S. dollar index, Treasury yields and Nasdaq futures. A brief Bitcoin bounce alone would not establish a lasting trend; sustained movement alongside rates and the dollar would provide stronger evidence of a macro-driven repricing.

The central issue is not whether one inflation report automatically makes Bitcoin bullish or bearish. It is whether producer-price pressure changes the expected path of monetary policy and whether traders have already priced that risk into BTC.

Will September PPI reinforce the case for tighter U.S. monetary policy, or give Bitcoin room to recover? The actual release and the market’s reaction not the forecast alone will decide which signal carries more weight.

Dogecoin DOGE, once hugely popular, is now facing a subdued market atmosphere. Dogecoin ETFs had previously seen three consecutive weeks of inflows, but the trend completely reversed in October as institutional funds began to pull out, putting significant pressure on the price.

📉ETF funds see $540,000 in outflows over two days.
According to SoSoValue data, from October 1 to 9, flows in and out of Dogecoin spot ETFs were virtually flat, with no funds entering or leaving. Instead of a turnaround, a wave of redemptions followed. Around $400,000 flowed out on October 12, followed by another $138,600 on the 13th, bringing total outflows to $540,000 in just two days.
Fund net assets also shrank from nearly $17 million at the start of the month to $14.44 million. The retreat of institutional funds is a major headwind DOGE must now face.

📊The price continues to weaken, with bearish technical indicators.
DOGE is down 14% overall this month. It was still holding at $0.095 at the start of the month, but slid steadily after October 7 and is now trading at around $0.0800.
Although it briefly rebounded to a high of $0.088 on the 12th, the recovery was short-lived, and the price quickly fell again, touching a low of $0.08. Technical indicators are also unpromising: the RSI has fallen below its signal line, while the CMF money flow indicator briefly dropped to near -0.90 and has now recovered to -0.30, indicating that the overall trend of capital outflows remains unchanged.

⚖️Futures market sees a tug-of-war between bulls and bears, with bullish positions weakening.
Signals from the derivatives market are mixed. DOGE open interest first surged to $652 million, then fell to $598 million before edging back up to $609 million. The funding rate remains positive at 0.0088%, indicating that the market still retains some long positions, with bulls continuing to pay fees to bears. However, the overall decline in open interest means bullish momentum in the futures market is weakening.

📌Market Summary and Key Points to Watch
$0.08 is a key short-term support level for DOGE. If it breaks decisively below this level, pressure on bulls will intensify sharply, and the price could fall further. The market is currently weak overall, and the rebound lacks strength, so it is unwise to blindly buy the dip. Watch closely to see whether the $0.08 support holds.#WCTCS9

Bitcoin’s move below $82,000 has shifted the market’s focus from the possibility of a $90,000 rally to the strength of the current support structure. Trading near $81,570, BTC is facing a combination of renewed US inflation pressure, changing Federal Reserve expectations, and uncertainty over leveraged positioning. The critical distinction is whether the market has already absorbed the inflation shock or whether another round of selling could follow.

September CPI Changed the Macro Picture

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that headline CPI increased 3.7% year over year in September, accelerating from 3.4% in August. Monthly inflation reached 0.6%, compared with 0.4% previously. Core CPI, excluding food and energy, rose 2.6% annually and 0.3% monthly.

Energy was a major contributor. Gasoline prices climbed 9.1% in September, accounting for more than half of the monthly increase in headline CPI. The energy index advanced 5.2% during the month, while shelter costs increased 0.4%.

These figures complicate the outlook for monetary easing. Persistent inflation can keep interest rates restrictive for longer, potentially supporting the dollar and Treasury yields while reducing investors’ appetite for risk-sensitive assets.

However, the inflation report does not automatically guarantee another rate hike. The Fed must evaluate incoming economic data, employment conditions, and the persistence of price pressures before determining its next move.

Why BTC Fell Below $82,000

Bitcoin’s decline reflects the sensitivity of crypto valuations to macroeconomic expectations. When inflation exceeds forecasts, markets may reassess the timing of rate cuts or the possibility of further tightening. Higher expected borrowing costs can make speculative positions less attractive, particularly when leverage is elevated.

Market reporting following the CPI release showed Bitcoin falling to approximately $80,247 before trading around $80,743 in the subsequent session. BTC has since approached the $81,570 level referenced here, but a recovery from the lows alone does not confirm a trend reversal.

The key question is whether buyers are returning through sustained spot demand or whether the rebound is primarily driven by short covering. These two scenarios can produce similar price action initially but have different implications for durability.

The $81,000–$80,000 Support Test

At approximately $81,570, Bitcoin is close to an important psychological area. The $81,000 region deserves attention as a near-term reference, while $80,000 is the next major round-number level traders may monitor if selling pressure resumes.

A sustained recovery above $82,000, supported by stronger spot volume and improving market breadth, would help repair the short-term structure. If BTC repeatedly fails to reclaim that level, sellers may retain control and the market could revisit lower support.

A break below $80,000 would increase downside risk, but it would not automatically establish a prolonged bearish trend. Confirmation would require examining subsequent price acceptance, trading volume, and whether buyers defend the breakdown area.

These levels are technical reference points, not guaranteed turning points.

Liquidations and Leverage: The Hidden Risk

During sharp declines, leveraged long positions can face liquidation as collateral becomes insufficient. Forced selling can amplify downward momentum, creating a feedback loop in which falling prices trigger further position closures.

Open interest helps distinguish between different forms of selling pressure. If BTC declines while open interest contracts sharply, traders may be closing positions or being liquidated. If open interest rises during the decline, new positions may be entering the market, although the direction of those positions cannot be established from open interest alone.

Funding rates provide additional context. Persistently positive funding during weakening price action may indicate that long exposure remains crowded. A reduction in funding and leverage could help stabilize market conditions, but it would not independently confirm a bottom.

Is the CPI Shock Already Priced In?

Markets often react to the difference between expectations and actual data, not simply to whether a headline looks positive or negative. Some of the inflation risk may already be reflected in Bitcoin’s decline, but that cannot be established from price alone.

If Treasury yields stabilize, the dollar loses momentum, and BTC reclaims $82,000 with credible spot demand, the market could begin recovering from the initial shock. If inflation concerns intensify and leveraged positions continue unwinding, $80,000 may come into focus instead.

The most important signal is confirmation across macroeconomic conditions, spot activity, and derivatives positioning.

At $81,570, Bitcoin is at a decision point rather than a confirmed bottom. Preserving capital, controlling leverage, and waiting for price confirmation are more defensible approaches than assuming either an immediate rebound or an inevitable breakdown.

What happens if oil prices keep rising, AI stocks start correcting, and U.S. inflation remains stubbornly high?
Each of these factors alone may not necessarily trigger a major sell-off. But if they converge around the November 3 U.S. midterm elections, the market could face a challenging stress test.

01 The real problem is oil pushing inflation higher again
Brent crude has broken above $110 per barrel. This price warrants caution because crude oil is not an ordinary commodity: its effects ripple throughout the economy through transportation, production, chemicals and consumer spending.
More importantly, U.S. CPI rose 3.7% year over year in September, while gasoline prices jumped 9.1% month over month. The simultaneous rebound in inflation and rise in energy prices have prompted markets to reconsider whether the Federal Reserve needs to maintain its restrictive policy. Here lies a key tension. If oil prices spike briefly and then fall, markets may quickly absorb the negative impact; but if geopolitical conflicts persist and oil prices remain elevated, inflation could prove more persistent than expected.
This would make the Fed's choices more difficult: cutting rates could prolong inflationary pressures, while keeping rates high could weigh on the economy and asset valuations. So what concerns us more than oil rising 3.6% on any given day is whether high oil prices will change market expectations for interest rates over the coming months.

02 AI valuations and high interest rates could reinforce each other
AI has been one of the most important drivers of the latest U.S. stock market rally. The market has been willing to assign high valuations to companies involved in chips, cloud computing and data centers because investors believe their revenue and profits will continue to grow.
But two questions need answering now: How much return will AI investment actually generate? If financing costs keep rising, are those returns still worth today's stock prices?
Reuters reported on October 15 that confidence in further gains for U.S. stocks depends heavily on strong earnings from large technology companies. Meanwhile, rising oil prices and Treasury yields are also putting pressure on high-valuation assets. This means that even if the AI industry's long-term direction remains unchanged, stock prices could first go through a valuation contraction. If technology companies report better-than-expected results, the market could still recover; if earnings disappoint while interest rates rise, the correction may be more than a short-term swing in sentiment.

03 Could the November 3 midterm elections become a black swan?
The election itself is not necessarily a black swan; the real risk to watch for is a gap between the election outcome and market expectations.
The U.S. midterm elections will determine control of Congress. Different outcomes could affect fiscal policy, tariffs, AI regulation and the progress of cryptocurrency legislation. For the crypto industry in particular, the pace of digital asset regulatory policy is worth watching.
But changes in congressional seats do not mean all U.S. policies will change immediately. The executive branch still has considerable policy tools at its disposal, and the specific impact will also depend on subsequent legislation and implementation.
What could truly catch markets off guard is a scenario in which investors expect the election to bring policy moderation, but the result instead creates greater policy uncertainty; or in which energy prices keep rising, increasing pressure on the government over inflation and the cost of living. If markets have already bet on a particular election outcome and the result fails to meet expectations, crowded positions could be unwound all at once.

04 What could happen to Bitcoin?
In the short term, Bitcoin should not simply be treated as a safe-haven asset. If oil prices continue to rise, inflation rebounds and the Fed sends a more hawkish signal, both technology stocks and crypto markets could come under pressure.
Bitcoin also faces an additional risk: liquidations of leveraged positions could amplify a decline. Conversely, if geopolitical tensions ease, oil prices fall and markets confirm that the Fed will not tighten policy further, risk assets could rebound quickly.
So, over the coming weeks, focus on four indicators: Brent crude prices, U.S. two-year Treasury yields, U.S. technology companies' earnings performance, and Bitcoin ETF flows and changes in futures-market leverage. These are more useful than simply guessing the outcome of a particular election.

05 How should you respond?
Volatility risks in U.S. stocks and crypto markets may rise for a while, but that does not mean a bear market is inevitable. If oil prices fall, yields stabilize and companies deliver on earnings, the market could still recover; if oil prices stay high, rate expectations continue to rise and AI earnings fall short of expectations, the market could face a deeper correction.
For investors, keep some cash on hand, manage leverage, and don't rush to buy the dip after a single decline or easily dismiss the value of long-term assets when markets panic.
The real risk to watch for is not any single negative factor, but several risks that could otherwise be absorbed separately happening at the same time. Treat the period before November 3 as an event window that warrants close attention, not as a predetermined market turning point. Going forward, watch oil prices, interest rates and earnings. The data will show where the market ultimately goes.

The US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for September serves as a critical trigger for global financial markets. Arriving just before the Federal Reserve's policy meeting at the end of October, this data will shape the general sentiment regarding interest rate expectations.

My primary expectation is that the September CPI data will come in close to forecasts and that the trend in core CPI will be more significant than the headline figure. The key question for markets is this: Is inflation cooling enough to give the Federal Reserve room to cut interest rates, or is it remaining resilient enough to necessitate a restrictive monetary policy stance?

It is scheduled for October 14 at 20:30. As this is a forward-looking market projection, the scenarios below are conditional assumptions rather than definitive predictions of the outcome.

Will CPI come in above or below expectations?

Current forecasts point to a mixed inflation report: while headline inflation is expected to rise, underlying (core) inflation is likely to remain moderate.

September CPI Indicator Market Expectation
Headline CPI, monthly +0.6%
Headline CPI, annual 3.6%
Core CPI, monthly +0.2%
Core CPI, annual 2.5%

My view: While headline CPI is more likely to remain elevated, core CPI could come in close to expectations. High gasoline prices pose a significant upside risk; however, the core data will help us determine whether inflationary pressure is spreading beyond the energy sector.

How might financial markets react? Scenario A: CPI comes in lower than expected

Stocks and crypto assets could rise as markets price in a more "dovish" Fed (less inclined toward interest rate hikes). US Treasury yields and the US dollar could weaken; this scenario could support gold and risk assets.

Scenario B: CPI comes in line with expectations

Markets might initially react with volatility, followed by a period of stabilization. Since much of the expected headline increase may already be priced in, investors would focus on the details and the Fed's potential reaction.

Scenario C: Core CPI delivers an upside surprise

Treasury yields and the dollar could rise as expectations for looser monetary policy diminish, while stocks (especially growth-oriented ones) and cryptocurrencies could face selling pressure.

These are potential market reactions, not guaranteed outcomes; positioning, liquidity conditions, and other economic news could alter these responses. My general market outlook:

I would maintain a cautious and neutral stance prior to the data release; rather than trading based solely on the headline figure, I would focus specifically on core CPI and Treasury yields.

* Bitcoin and crypto assets: A lower core inflation reading could fuel a relief rally, whereas a higher-than-expected figure could trigger short-term volatility and liquidations.
* US stock markets: Market direction will likely depend on whether the report alters expectations regarding Fed policy. * Gold: While low bond yields and a weak dollar could support gold, rising real yields might exert downward pressure on prices.

In summary: The surprise factor in the inflation data is more significant than the headline figure simply appearing high. Before making a directional trade, I would wait to see the actual figures and the market's initial reaction.
