Crypto Market Under Pressure: Macro Selloff or Internal Liquidity Stress?

Crypto is facing pressure from two directions at the same time. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP have all moved lower as global risk appetite weakened, but the decline is exposing something deeper: the crypto market's own liquidity and positioning conditions are not particularly strong either.

I would not treat this as just another temporary reaction to falling technology stocks.

The macro connection is becoming harder to ignore

The November 5 U.S. technology selloff was severe. The Nasdaq Composite fell around 5.5%, while the Nasdaq 100 lost approximately 6.4%. Investors were rapidly reducing exposure to crowded AI and technology trades amid concerns about valuations, future infrastructure spending and the economic outlook.

Crypto was caught in the same risk reduction.

Bitcoin dropped toward $76,000, while Ethereum and other major assets experienced even sharper percentage declines. When investors reduce exposure to volatile assets, crypto often feels the impact quickly because it trades continuously and has substantial leveraged participation.

But correlation does not mean every crypto decline has the same cause.

Leverage is turning selling into a bigger move

One of the clearest warning signs came from derivatives markets.

More than $1 billion in crypto leveraged positions were liquidated during the November 5 selloff, with bullish positions accounting for the overwhelming majority. When leveraged longs are forcibly closed, their positions are sold into an already weak market.

That can create a feedback loop:

Prices fall, leveraged positions approach liquidation, forced selling increases, and the additional selling pushes prices lower.

This is why a relatively ordinary decline in spot demand can sometimes produce a much larger move in the derivatives market.

Capital flows show a broader problem

Gate Research's October market review reported approximately $514.4 million in net outflows from U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs and $1.607 billion from Ethereum ETFs.

It also reported around $7.5 billion in stablecoin supply contraction during October, while total DeFi TVL declined approximately 10.87%.

These numbers matter because a healthy recovery needs more than short covering. It needs fresh capital willing to buy and hold assets.

Bitcoin has shown greater relative resilience than Ethereum and Solana, but that does not automatically mean the entire market is ready for a sustainable recovery.

Why ETH, SOL and XRP need separate attention

Ethereum is dealing with weaker ETF demand and pressure across its DeFi ecosystem. Solana has experienced a deeper monthly decline, with its ecosystem also facing reduced capital allocation.

XRP has its own market structure and investor base, so it should not automatically be expected to follow ETH or SOL in every rebound.

If Bitcoin stabilizes but these assets continue underperforming, it would suggest that capital is concentrating in the largest and relatively stronger cryptocurrency rather than returning broadly to the market.

What I am watching next

My November 6 BTC chart shows price around $75,763, with RSI near 37.82 and negative MACD momentum. The $75,500–$75,045 area is an important nearby support zone, followed by approximately $73,207.

For a recovery, I would watch the $77,020–$77,203 area first, followed by $82,009 and $84,395.

For Ethereum, the $2,183–$2,156 support area remains important, while $2,368 is an initial recovery level. Solana's chart shows support around $108 and $99, with RSI near 29.19. XRP is around $1.20, with nearby resistance around $1.27–$1.31.

These are reference levels from my November 6 chart screenshots, not guaranteed reversal points.

My Take

I would avoid aggressively buying every dip while liquidity remains weak and leveraged positioning is still adjusting.

For longer-term investors, gradual accumulation with controlled position sizing may make more sense than trying to predict the exact bottom. For short-term traders, I would prefer to see support hold, selling pressure ease and spot demand return before increasing exposure.

The strongest recovery signal would be a combination of improving ETF flows, stablecoin supply stabilization, lower liquidation pressure and better performance across ETH and SOL relative to BTC.

A green candle is encouraging. A genuine improvement in capital flows is much more convincing.

Would you buy the dip, reduce exposure or stay on the sidelines until the market confirms a stronger recovery?

Not financial advice.
