Fed Keeps Rates Steady: What It Means for BTC and ETH
The Fed delivered the expected rate pause on October 28, but the decision was not as straightforward as a simple “no change” headline suggests. The bigger message was that inflation remains a concern, and the possibility of further tightening has not disappeared.
For crypto, that distinction matters.
1. The Rate Decision Was Only Half the Story
The Federal Reserve kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.75%–4.00%, with a 10–2 vote.
Two officials preferred an immediate 0.25% increase. At the same time, the Fed described economic activity as expanding at a strong pace and acknowledged that inflation remains elevated.
This creates a difficult environment for risk assets. A pause avoids another immediate increase in borrowing costs, but it does not automatically mean easier financial conditions or cheaper liquidity are coming.
2. Why Crypto Didn't Get an Automatic Bullish Signal
Bitcoin and Ethereum are sensitive to expectations around interest rates, the dollar, bond yields and overall liquidity.
If investors believe rates will eventually move lower, risk appetite can improve. But if inflation stays persistent and markets begin pricing in another increase, that can put pressure on speculative assets.
The important distinction is between a rate pause and a genuine shift toward monetary easing.
I would pay attention to three things:
US Treasury yields: A sustained decline could support risk appetite, while rising yields may create pressure.
US dollar: Dollar weakness can provide breathing room for crypto, although it is not a guaranteed bullish signal.
Inflation and employment data: These will help shape expectations for the Fed's next move.
The press conference and the two dissenting votes also matter because they show that policymakers are not completely aligned on the path ahead.
3. Bitcoin: The $80K Area Still Matters
In my latest chart snapshot, BTC was trading around $79,393.
The immediate resistance zone sits around $81,973, followed by approximately $84,297. A convincing move above the first level could improve the short-term structure and bring the next resistance into focus.
On the downside, I am watching $77,020–$76,679 as an important support area. Losing that zone could expose Bitcoin to another move toward $75,500.
The daily RSI was near 40, while MACD remained negative. That tells me momentum had not yet confirmed a strong bullish reversal.
For me, reclaiming resistance matters more than simply holding a round-number level.
4. Ethereum: Waiting for Momentum Confirmation
ETH was around $2,498 in the same chart snapshot.
The first nearby level to watch is approximately $2,512. A sustained move above it would be an early improvement, but I would still watch whether buyers can maintain momentum.
On the downside, the chart shows support references near $2,353, followed by $2,294 and $2,225.
RSI was around 38 and MACD remained negative. So even if ETH reacts positively to macro news, I would want to see stronger momentum and a convincing recovery above resistance before calling it a breakout.
5. My Take: Watch the Follow-Through, Not the Headline
The Fed has already made its decision. The next question is how markets interpret the possibility of another move.
A genuine crypto breakout needs more than a rate pause. I want to see improving liquidity expectations, supportive movement in the dollar and yields, stronger spot demand, and BTC and ETH reclaiming their important resistance levels.
If those signals line up, the market could have room to build a stronger recovery. If inflation concerns keep yields elevated and the dollar firm, the current trading ranges may remain difficult to escape.
Not financial advice.
What are you watching more closely after this Fed decision: BTC breaking above $82K, ETH reclaiming $2,512, or the next inflation data?
