Sharjah Police, in coordination with the UAE Ministry of Interior, dealt a heavy blow to international cryptocurrency-linked criminal networks with Operation "End of Battle." The operation dismantled four interconnected international criminal networks and resulted in the arrest of 33 suspects from 12 different nationalities, including high-ranking officials. The investigation revealed the complex structure of the organized crime group and how it used digital assets.

Details and Figures of the Operation

According to officials, more than 30 companies and institutions worldwide were protected as a result of the operation. Assets worth 65 billion AED (approximately US$17.7 billion) were secured, while cash and assets worth 200 million AED (approximately US$54 million) were seized. Over 3,000 digital wallets were examined in detail during the investigation.

Structure and Operating Methods of Criminal Networks

The activities of the networks were not limited to a single type of crime. Police determined that four separate groups operated by dividing tasks. The first group infiltrated systems and stole data and information. The second group laundered these stolen assets through cryptocurrency and integrated them into the system. The third group used social engineering methods to deceive victims and gain access to their digital wallets. The fourth group directly used physical violence to force victims to provide their wallet passwords.

A Striking Detail

One of the most striking aspects of the operation was that the person who sparked the investigation was a 15-year-old child. Police teams discovered that a young person possessed a large amount of crypto assets in their digital wallet. Investigations revealed that this young person played a critical role in the digital asset laundering process for individuals involved in fraud, hacking, and cyber extortion. The investigation progressed through this young person, leading to the uncovering of the entire network's structure.

Impact on the Market

Officials emphasized that the operation played a significant role in preventing potential negative economic repercussions on global digital asset markets. It was noted that criminal networks used encrypted communication platforms that changed every eight hours to avoid detection. Such operations are crucial for maintaining investor confidence in digital assets and ensuring overall market stability.

Do you think such operations are sufficient to increase confidence in the cryptocurrency market, or do regulatory bodies need to take further steps?

This is not investment advice.

That last line, “not investment advice,” was a nice touch. After all, even after people are arrested, the coin price might not go up
