#CryptoMarketTurnsGreedy $BTC $ETH $SOL $DOGE
The headline says “Greed,” but the number deserves a closer look before anyone treats it as a signal.
1. The reading
One tracker puts the Crypto Fear & Greed Index at 64 on Friday, up 12 points from 52 (neutral) a day earlier. The 7-day average is 60 and the 30-day average is 67. So we’re “greedy” but still below last month’s average, and the last five days ranged from 52 to 68. That looks like a mood swinging, not one building.
2. Not every gauge agrees
Another tracker had its crypto index at 38 (fear) on October 15, up from 33 a week earlier. Providers weight volatility, momentum, social data and dominance differently, so “greed” depends on which dial you read. I wouldn’t base a trade on one number.
3. What drove the jump
After PPI, BTC bounced from about $79,800 to about $82,300, roughly +3.1% (my math). A 12-point swing on a 3% move tells me the index is reacting to volatility and momentum rather than a change in conviction. It’s a thermometer, not a forecast.
4. The price context
BTC is still about 35% below its all-time high of $126,080, spot ETFs are reportedly still seeing net outflows this month, and rate-hike odds for the Oct 27–28 Fed meeting remain live. Nearly $1B was reportedly liquidated this week. Greed after outflows and a leverage flush looks more like relief than euphoria.
5. Chart check (levels from my screenshot)
BTC at 82,047: 50-day at 81,293 (price is 0.9% above it), support at 80,890 (-1.4%), resistance at 86,379 (+5.3%). RSI is 48, and the MACD histogram is -505.
ETH at 2,440.58: 50-day at 2,552 (+4.6%), support at 2,366 (-3.1%), resistance at 2,809 (+15.1%). RSI is about 40, and the histogram is -28.05.
SOL at 105.41: 50-day at 109.36 (+3.7%), support at 101.54 (-3.7%), resistance at 126.54 (+20.0%). RSI is about 40, and the histogram is -1.89.
Sentiment says greed, but none of the three has an RSI above 50, and ETH and SOL are still below their 50-day averages. Only BTC has reclaimed its own. That gap, with mood ahead of price, is what I’d watch.
6. When greed becomes a warning
Greed runs from 55 to 75, and extreme greed starts at 75, so 64 is 11 points short of that. It turns into a risk flag when leverage builds and price stalls at major resistance, like 86.4K for BTC. This week’s liquidations argue that leverage was flushed, not stacked.
My take: not overheating, but not a green light either. A 64 is a relief reading after a hot-CPI shake-out. I’d treat it as context and let price decide. BTC holding 80.9K and reclaiming 82.5K matters more than any sentiment score, and ETH and SOL need to retake their 50-day averages before I call this broad strength.
Not financial advice.
Which gauge do you trust more, the sentiment index or the chart? And do you see 64 as room to run or the first sign of a crowd getting ahead of itself?
