#GateAugustTransparencyReport

Gate's August transparency report landed on September 11, and the numbers deserve more than a passing glance. Most exchange disclosures read like marketing copy dressed up as data. This one reads differently, partly because the figures are unusually specific and partly because they point to something larger than trading volume.

Start with the reserves, because that is where trust actually lives. Gate now reports total reserves of 8.215 billion dollars against a 127 percent reserve ratio. That means roughly 1.75 billion dollars sits as excess capital above what users hold. The breakdown is granular enough to verify. Bitcoin user assets stand at 22,436 coins, backed by 27,550 in platform reserves, which produces an excess ratio of 22.79 percent. Ethereum follows almost the same pattern, with 375,429 coins held by users against 458,203 in reserves, an excess of 22.05 percent. Stablecoins tell a similar story. USDT, USDC, USD1 and GUSD together represent 1.578 billion dollars in user assets, backed by 1.761 billion in reserves, a coverage ratio of 111.63 percent.

What makes these figures more than a press release is the verification method. Gate continues to use Merkle tree structures combined with zero-knowledge proofs, allowing individual users to confirm their balances are included without exposing private account details. Cold wallet storage remains above 95 percent, and hot wallet balances are fully backed on chain.

The more interesting story, though, is not in reserves. It is in real world asset perpetuals. Gate's open interest in this category reached 378.8 million dollars, which represents 49.6 percent of the entire centralized exchange market. The global total for RWA perpetual open interest sits at roughly 763 million dollars. Gate alone holds nearly half of it. Trading volume in this segment has climbed from 12.2 billion dollars in June to 64.8 billion in August, a fivefold increase in three months. CoinDesk's separate tracking places Gate third globally by RWA perpetual volume with a 12.6 percent share, up from 5.32 percent in July. The gap between the open interest share and the volume share is worth noting. It suggests Gate's users are committing capital for longer periods rather than churning positions, though it could also reflect a different type of trader on the platform.

The push into traditional finance is no longer a side experiment. Stock perpetual trading volume grew 308 percent month over month in August, the third consecutive month of triple digit growth. CryptoQuant flagged Gate as the fastest growing exchange in crypto stock perpetuals, with volume reaching roughly 15 billion dollars compared to 580 million in April. Asset coverage now exceeds 12,800 stock and ETF instruments, including around 300 Japanese stocks added during the month. CFD coverage spans 680 trading pairs, and total traditional finance assets exceed 1,000. ETF products cover 408 pairs with about 20 billion dollars in total volume.

Institutional signals are harder to read but present. CrossEx asset scale grew 143 percent month over month to a new record. Gate also reduced taker and contract fees by 12.5 to 20 percent across certain channels, with stock related contracts seeing discounts of up to 80 percent. These are not retail facing moves. They are infrastructure plays aimed at professional flow. Perpetual DEX API trading volume rose 134 percent, and API order counts climbed 40.5 percent, which points to growing participation from quantitative and institutional traders accessing the platform programmatically.

The wealth management side added its own weight. GUSD reached a record 257 million dollars in assets on August 15. The platform launched an idle stablecoin yield product that automatically earns up to 3 percent annually on balances held in trading accounts, with no lockup and no manual subscription. On chain yield products peaked at 1.44 billion dollars in total value locked during the month, a 13.4 percent increase from the previous high.

Taken together, these figures describe a platform executing a coherent strategy. Use crypto native infrastructure to bridge into traditional assets. Build institutional grade services. Maintain a reserve position strong enough to withstand market stress. The 30 day net inflow reached 3.081 billion dollars, ranking second among mainstream platforms. Daily spot and derivatives volume sits around 9.5 billion dollars, placing it in the global top three. Open interest stands at 124.8 billion dollars.

But the most telling number may be the least dramatic one. In an industry where trust is the scarcest asset, that 1.75 billion dollar reserve buffer is the quiet foundation everything else rests on. The market is watching, and for now, the numbers are holding.
