NVDA AFTER THE NFP SHOCK: AI MOMENTUM VS FED PRESSURE 👀
The August U.S. Nonfarm Payrolls report has changed the short-term market narrative. U.S. payrolls increased by 162,000, far above expectations, and the stronger-than-expected labor market immediately forced traders to rethink the Federal Reserve’s next move. Treasury yields moved higher, rate expectations became more hawkish, and U.S. equities initially came under pressure.
But NVIDIA is a different story.
The big question for NVDA now is not simply whether the Fed is becoming more hawkish. The real question is whether macro pressure can overpower one of the strongest fundamental AI growth stories in the market.
NVDA is currently around $230, putting the stock at a critical technical and psychological zone. After the NFP surprise, investors are balancing two completely different forces: higher-rate pressure on technology valuations versus extraordinary demand for AI infrastructure.
THE NFP EFFECT ON NVDA
Strong employment data can be a short-term negative for high-growth technology stocks because stronger economic data can reduce expectations for rapid monetary easing. Higher Treasury yields increase the discount rate applied to future earnings, which can pressure companies trading at premium valuations.
That is particularly important for NVDA because investors have already assigned a very large valuation to its future AI earnings.
However, there is an important difference between a company with a strong valuation and a company with strong valuation plus exceptional earnings growth.
NVIDIA belongs to the second category.
Its fundamental story is being supported by massive AI infrastructure spending, accelerated computing demand, data-center expansion and continued investment from the world’s largest technology companies.
That means a temporary increase in yields does not automatically destroy the NVDA bull thesis.
It simply makes the market more demanding.
NVDA FUNDAMENTALS REMAIN THE BIG BULL CASE
NVIDIA’s recent financial performance has been extraordinary. Its latest quarterly revenue was approximately $96.2 billion, up more than 100% year over year, while Data Center revenue was around $89 billion and also showed explosive year-over-year growth.
This is why traders should separate valuation risk from business-performance risk.
If NVDA’s earnings growth remains extremely strong, the stock can continue attracting buyers even when the macro environment becomes more difficult.
The danger appears when three things happen simultaneously:
Treasury yields rise sharply.
AI spending expectations weaken.
NVDA’s forward earnings expectations begin to fall.
At the moment, the NFP report clearly strengthens the first risk. The market still needs evidence for the second and third.
TECHNICAL BATTLE AROUND $230
At approximately $230, NVDA is sitting in a very important decision area.
The first level I would watch is $225.
If NVDA holds the $225–$230 zone and buyers continue defending dips, the stock can attempt a recovery toward $235. A clean breakout above $235 could bring $240 into focus.
Above $240, momentum could accelerate toward $245 and then the psychologically important $250 area.
A decisive move above $250 with strong volume would be a major bullish signal because it would show that investors are willing to absorb higher-rate pressure in exchange for exposure to AI growth.
But the downside levels are equally important.
If $225 fails decisively, $220 becomes the next area to watch.
A breakdown below $220 could expose $215, and if $215 also fails, the market could enter a deeper correction.
This does not necessarily mean the long-term NVDA story is broken. It would simply mean that the market is demanding a lower entry valuation.
BULLISH SCENARIO
My bullish scenario is straightforward.
NVDA holds $225–$230, stabilizes after the NFP volatility and then reclaims $235.
A break above $235 can target:
$240 $245 $250
If $250 breaks with strong buying volume, the next upside expansion could become significantly larger.
The strongest bullish confirmation would come from a combination of rising NVDA price, strong semiconductor-sector performance and stable or declining Treasury yields.
That combination would tell us that investors are once again prioritizing AI earnings growth over monetary-policy concerns.
BEARISH SCENARIO
The bearish setup begins if NVDA loses $225 with strong selling pressure.
Below $225, traders should watch $220.
Below $220, $215 becomes important.
A sustained break below $215 would weaken the short-term bullish structure and could trigger additional profit-taking.
The macro risk becomes much larger if Treasury yields continue rising while the Nasdaq and semiconductor sector simultaneously weaken.
In that environment, even excellent companies can experience multiple compression.
This is why blindly buying every dip is dangerous.
NFP + FED + NVDA = THE REAL EQUATION
The market is now trying to answer one question:
Does strong employment mean higher rates for longer?
If the answer becomes increasingly “yes,” NVDA may face valuation pressure.
But if inflation begins cooling while employment remains relatively strong, the Fed could eventually find room to ease without needing to aggressively support the economy.
That would create a much more favorable environment for growth stocks.
Therefore, traders should not look at NFP in isolation.
Watch:
U.S. Treasury yields Inflation data Fed communication Nasdaq momentum Semiconductor strength NVDA volume AI-capex expectations
These factors will determine whether the NFP shock becomes a temporary pullback or the beginning of a larger technology correction.
NVDA VS THE BROADER MARKET
Another interesting point is that strong AI fundamentals can create relative strength.
If the S&P 500 or Nasdaq weakens while NVDA continues holding $225–$230, that would be a bullish sign.
It would indicate that investors are rotating toward companies where earnings growth can justify premium valuations.
But if NVDA begins underperforming the Nasdaq while simultaneously breaking technical support, that would be a warning that macro pressure is becoming more powerful than the AI narrative.
Volume will be extremely important.
A price drop on low volume can simply represent profit-taking.
A price drop through $225 with exceptionally high volume would be much more serious.
TRADING PLAN
For aggressive traders, the $225–$230 region is the first area to watch for a confirmed bounce.
TP1: $235 TP2: $240 TP3: $250
For a stronger breakout strategy, traders can wait for a confirmed move above $235 and then monitor $240 and $250.
On the downside:
Support 1: $225 Support 2: $220 Support 3: $215
A trader should define invalidation before entering rather than deciding after the position moves against them.
The exact stop should depend on entry price, position size and risk tolerance. Using excessive leverage simply because NVDA has fallen is not a strategy.
THE BIGGEST RISK FOR NVDA
The biggest short-term risk is not competition.
It is multiple compression.
NVDA can continue producing outstanding earnings while the stock temporarily falls if investors decide that future earnings deserve a lower valuation because interest rates are higher.
This distinction is extremely important.
A falling share price does not automatically mean falling business performance.
Likewise, strong earnings do not guarantee that the stock will rise every day.
Markets price expectations, not just current results.
THE BIGGEST BULLISH CATALYST
The biggest bullish catalyst remains continued AI infrastructure spending.
If hyperscalers and enterprises continue increasing AI capital expenditure, demand for NVIDIA’s accelerated computing ecosystem can remain exceptionally strong.
The market will then focus less on whether rates are 4% or 5% and more on whether NVDA can continue delivering extraordinary earnings growth.
That is the fundamental battle.
VALUATION VS GROWTH.
The NFP report has strengthened the valuation side of that battle.
NVIDIA’s earnings have strengthened the growth side.
FINAL VERDICT
At around $230, I would describe NVDA as being at a crossroads rather than at a confirmed top or confirmed bottom.
Above $235, momentum improves.
Above $240, bulls gain additional confirmation.
Above $250, the chart could enter another powerful momentum phase.
Below $225, caution increases.
Below $220, downside pressure becomes more serious.
Below $215, the short-term structure would require a much deeper reassessment.
The NFP report has introduced a genuine macro headwind, but it has not erased NVIDIA’s AI fundamentals.
My preferred approach is therefore confirmation over emotion.
I would rather miss the first few dollars of a confirmed breakout than chase a volatile candle immediately after macro data.
For bulls, the ideal setup is NVDA defending $225–$230, Treasury yields stabilizing and the stock reclaiming $235 with volume.
For bears, the setup is the opposite: rising yields, weakening Nasdaq momentum, loss of $225 and heavy selling volume.
The next major move in NVDA will probably be decided by the battle between AI earnings power and interest-rate pressure.
NFP has changed the macro game.
Now NVIDIA has to prove whether its AI strength is powerful enough to overcome it. 👀📈
