WHERE IS THE MONEY MOVING? GATE’S 7-DAY FLOWS GIVE A CLEAR SIGNAL
Crypto prices can move in minutes, but capital flows often reveal the bigger picture.
$BTC
From August 23 to August 30, Gate’s seven-day net-flow data shows an important rotation. USDT is building, BTC is attracting fresh capital, while ETH is seeing coins leave exchanges despite maintaining positive price momentum.
That combination deserves attention.
The broader market remains risk-on, but this is not yet a full altcoin frenzy. Total crypto market capitalization is around $2.70T, Bitcoin dominance is near 59.5%, Fear & Greed stands at 76, and the Altcoin Season Index remains at only 31. Bitcoin is still controlling the market structure.
USDT leads the flow table with approximately 13.03M USDT in net inflows, while its exchange balance increased by more than 208%.
This is potentially significant.
Stablecoins represent deployable liquidity. When traders move USDT onto an exchange, they are creating purchasing power that can quickly rotate into BTC, ETH or high-momentum altcoins when attractive setups appear.
Bitcoin ranks next, recording approximately 16 BTC of net inflow, worth around $1.25M at current prices.
BTC is trading near $78,145 after spending the week between roughly $76.7K and $81.5K.
The more interesting signal comes from the divergence between institutional and exchange flows. US spot Bitcoin ETFs reportedly recorded around $202M in net outflows on August 28, while Gate’s BTC balance continued to increase.
Gate’s reported BTC reserves are around 23,009 BTC, with a reserve ratio near 122.8%.
$ETH
Ethereum presents a completely different setup.
Gate’s ETH balance declined by approximately 5,687 ETH, equivalent to around $14M or 1.58%.
At first glance, that appears bearish.
The broader data tells another story.
ETH still gained roughly 1.6% during the week. ETH spot ETFs attracted around $102M on August 28, Gate’s taker buy/sell ratio remained near 1.06, derivatives open interest stood around $32.3B, and the long-to-short ratio remained above 1.43.
This looks less like aggressive distribution and more like capital migration.
Coins are leaving exchanges while demand remains resilient.
Liquidity is another important factor. Gate’s reported BTC spread was around $0.10, while ETH was near $0.01. Across the previous six full sessions, spot volume reached approximately $3.77B for BTC and $1.96B for ETH.
The sequence of the flows is what matters most:
USDT → BTC → ETH
First, liquidity arrives.
Then capital begins positioning around Bitcoin.
Meanwhile, Ethereum is experiencing exchange outflows without losing its upward price structure.
If the growing USDT liquidity starts rotating more aggressively into risk assets, the next move could become significantly stronger.
Broad altseason has not arrived yet.
But capital is already positioning.
For traders, the flow data may be worth watching before the headlines.
