#GateReservesRiseTo$8.2Billion

When I think about choosing an exchange for long-term use, I believe the decision should go much deeper than fees, promotions, or the number of coins listed. Those things can be attractive, but when real money is involved, trust, transparency, security and liquidity become much more important.

For me, proof of reserves is one of the first metrics worth checking. An exchange should be able to give users a clear picture of how customer assets are backed. Gate’s latest proof-of-reserves update reports an overall coverage ratio of 127%, with major assets including BTC, ETH and stablecoins maintaining excess reserves. Numbers like these are important because they provide users with additional information when evaluating the financial strength and transparency of a platform.

However, I would never judge an exchange based on reserves alone.

Liquidity is equally important, especially for active traders. During normal market conditions, almost every platform can appear efficient. The real test comes when volatility suddenly increases and thousands of traders are trying to enter or exit positions at the same time. Strong liquidity can help reduce slippage, improve execution and make markets function more smoothly when conditions become difficult.

Security is another factor I consider non-negotiable. A platform can have strong reserves and deep liquidity, but users still need confidence that their accounts and assets are properly protected. Reliable infrastructure, account security, risk controls and the ability to operate during extreme market conditions all contribute to that confidence.

Then comes transparency.

I personally value exchanges that communicate consistently rather than only publishing positive information when market sentiment is strong. Regular reserve reporting, clear product information and straightforward communication can help users understand what they are actually using. Transparency should be an ongoing process, not a one-time announcement.

There is also another metric that I think many traders overlook: reliability during stressful market conditions. An exchange may look excellent when BTC is moving sideways, but what happens when BTC suddenly moves thousands of dollars in a few hours? Can traders access the platform? Are orders executing normally? Is liquidity still available? Can users manage their positions when volatility is at its highest?

For futures traders, these questions become even more important because fast price movements can create significant execution and risk-management challenges. This is why I would rather evaluate an exchange from several angles instead of focusing on a single headline number.

If I had to build my own checklist for long-term exchange selection, it would be simple:

Security first.

Then transparency and proof of reserves.

Then liquidity and market depth.

After that, I would look at product quality, trading tools, fees, customer support and the overall user experience.

Low fees are useful. More trading pairs are useful. New products are useful. But none of these things matter much if users cannot trust the platform or access their assets when they need them.

That is why Gate’s latest proof-of-reserves data caught my attention. The reported 127% overall coverage ratio and excess reserves across major assets give users another piece of information to consider when evaluating the platform. But personally, I think the real value comes from continued transparency over time. One report can provide information, while consistent reporting can build confidence.

In the end, choosing an exchange is not simply about asking, “Where can I trade?”

The better question is:

“Which platform can I trust to remain secure, transparent, liquid and reliable when the market becomes unpredictable?”

That is the standard I would use for long-term exchange selection.

What matters most to you?

Proof of reserves, liquidity, security, transparency, reliability during volatility, or something else?
