#ETHSurges20%BreaksThrough2300
Four Catalysts Behind the Rise
Ethereum surged to $2,302.74 on the morning of August 20th, gaining 20.44% in the last 24 hours. This move coincided with its first break above the $2,000 level in two months. Doubling Bitcoin's 7-8% rise, ETH became the most favored asset for large investors in this rally.
Four Factors Behind the Move
1. US Treasury Intervention
The Treasury Department increased the limit on long-term bond repurchases from $2 billion per transaction to a minimum of $4 billion. This move was interpreted as "QE-light" and brought down the 30-year bond yield, which had reached its highest level since 2007. The influx of liquidity into risk assets directly fueled Ethereum.
2. SEC Regulatory Step
The SEC proposed a new draft rule called "Regulation Crypto Assets". This framework, which allows crypto projects to raise up to $75 million annually through fundraising exemptions, reduced regulatory uncertainty.
3. White House Crypto Summit
On the same day, Trump met with Coinbase and Ripple executives at the White House. A call was made for the passage of the CLARITY Act through the Senate. The consecutive signals of regulatory support throughout the week positively shifted market sentiment.
4. Short Squeeze
According to CoinGlass data, over $1.1 billion in ETH short positions were liquidated in the last 24 hours. Approximately 92% of this consisted of short positions. A single wallet ("pension-usdt.eth") lost $108 million. Open positions in the derivatives market reached $1.89 billion, while the long/short ratio of large investors rose to 2.33.
Technical Outlook
The $2,300-$2,340 range is currently the most critical resistance zone. Maintaining above this level is important for the continuation of the uptrend. Below, the $2,230-$2,250 range is being watched as a support zone; this level represents the upper band of ETH's long-term consolidation. The improvement in the ETH/BTC pair is also noteworthy: Ethereum has started to rise, decoupling from Bitcoin instead of simply following it.
Two new wallet addresses purchased a total of $1.831 million worth of ETH in the midst of the rally. This indicates that institutional demand remains strong.
For Gate users: The $2,300 level is now a testing ground. A daily close above this level could bring the $2,500 region into play. However, if stability in the $2,300-$2,340 range is not achieved, a pullback to the $2,230-$2,250 support level may occur. High funding rates and overbought signals in the RSI increase the risk of a correction in the short term. The Jackson Hole meeting and the Senate's progress on the CLARITY Act will be the main factors determining ETH's direction in the upcoming period.
