The strange excitement surrounding the Polish tanks PT-91 Twardy: the expert explained what Russia is doing here
As the expert reminds, as of 2024 PT-91 Twardy operators are only 3 countries - Poland, Ukraine and Malaysia, which is armed with the PT-91M Pendekar modification.
That is, the request for repair kits from other countries, while in rather large quantities, is rather strange.
At the same time, Kovalenko points out that during the full-scale war in Ukraine, the destruction of 4 and damage to 1 PT-91 Twardy tank was verified. However, the losses may be greater, and some of the tanks could be captured by the Russians.
It is possible that for repair purposes, through third countries, they are trying to grope for opportunities to purchase original repair kits, the expert believes.
"It is worth noting that the PT-91 Twardy, whose profile is well-recognizable, in case it falls into the hands of the Russians and restores combat capability, can be used for sabotage and provocations," Kovalenko emphasizes.
Polish tanks in Ukraine
For the first time, Polish PT-91 Twardy tanks were delivered to Ukraine in July last year. The delivery was confirmed by the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak. The number of cars transferred at that time was not reported.
In January 2023, the Polish authorities announced that they would deliver 60 more tanks of this model to Ukraine. Taking into account the previous deliveries of Polish T-72 non-modernized versions, Poland turned out to be the largest supplier of tanks for the Armed Forces.
