PANews July 29, citing a report by The Block, said that Blockaid’s report shows that in the first half of 2026, the crypto industry suffered losses of more than $1.0 billion due to hacker attacks. The number of verified exploit events reached a historic high, making it the most attacked half-year in history by event count, but the dollar losses were lower than in the same period last year, because 2025 had Bybit’s $1.5 billion theft case. North Korean hackers were the biggest perpetrators, involving $285 million exploits tied to Drift and $292 million exploits tied to KelpDAO. Their pattern—using LinkedIn social engineering attacks to target multi-sig signers—is expected to continue. By chain, Ethereum and Solana projects suffered the most losses, reaching $332 million and $326 million respectively. The report also predicts that AI-related exploit events will increase; in the first half, there was already a $216k AI agent theft incident involving Bankr, and more is expected in the second half.
