FOMC rate decision suspense is turned up to the max, with Bitcoin pulling back sharply

一、Market overview
As of early Asian trading on July 28, Bitcoin fell to around $63,000, setting an 11-day low; Ethereum dropped below the $1,900 level, down more than 3% over 24 hours. In the past 24 hours, liquidations across the entire network totaled $679 million, including $536 million liquidated on long positions, with more than 160k liquidated traders.二、News-side negative factors: FOMC rate decision suspense is turned up to the max (July 28-29): The market is sharply divided over whether the Fed will hike or hold rates—probability of holding rates is 63.7%, while the probability of a 25bp hike is 36.3%, the biggest divergence since September 2024. Castle Securities even expects the Federal Reserve to unexpectedly hike 25bp. Bitcoin ETF flows diverge: the continuous multi-day trend of net inflows paused, and a single day saw large net outflows. ETF net outflows on July 23-24 exceeded $465 million.
Nvidia AI credit risk spreading: Nvidia is advancing transactions worth over $160k in AI infrastructure, with CDS spiking to record highs, and risk sentiment spilling over into the crypto market. Geopolitical disturbances: Trump again threatens to resume attacks on Iran.
Bullish factors: Ethereum spot ETFs saw net inflows of $104 million last week, about three times Bitcoin’s ETF, and have led for the second consecutive week.
The Iran-US ceasefire has entered its third day, with oil prices plunging more than 8% to around $86. The US “Digital Assets Market Clarity Act” is in a key stage of deliberation in the Senate.
三、Technical analysis
Bitcoin (BTC): After yesterday’s high of 65,722, it came under pressure and moved down, with the lowest wick around 63,021. The current price is around 63,350; an effective break below the short-term moving average has turned the short-term moving average from support into a strong resistance. The 1-hour and 4-hour charts are weakening in sync, and the 65,000 level has shifted from support to resistance. RSI(14) reads 32.63, nearing the oversold range; the MACD dead cross confirms downward momentum.
Ethereum (ETH): After yesterday’s high at 1,983, it quickly pulled back, with the lowest dip around 1,865. The 1,900-1,920 zone has turned from support into resistance. On the daily chart, the Bollinger middle band plus the EMA in the 1,920-1,940 range forms a double-layer suppression. There are signs of a MACD dead cross on the 4-hour chart.
四、On-chain data
Medium- and long-term holding “chips” have not loosened on a large scale; short-term fluctuations are mainly driven by leverage positions in derivatives. Bitcoin long liquidations were $134 million, while short liquidations were only $23.87 million—long liquidations overwhelmingly dominate. Ethereum long liquidations totaled $80.40 million, while short liquidations were $51.15 million. Over the past week, about 9,000 BTC flowed out of exchanges, but open futures contracts declined instead, indicating traders are reducing exposure rather than increasing bullish bets.#BTC #ETH
